Sorry Aidan & Big, And Just Like That Season 3 Is Finally Giving Carrie Bradshaw Her Best Romance Of All Time

Warning! SPOILERS For And Just Like That Season 3, Episode 7, “They Wanna Have Fun”

Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw may finally be giving her history with Big (Chris Noth) and Aidan Shaw (John Corbett) a rest, as the writer is poised to embark on a fresh romance in And Just Like That, possibly her best of all time. And Just Like That season 3 has introduced Duncan Reeves (Jonathan Cake), Carrie’s downstairs neighbor.

While Duncan was initially a bother to Carrie, complaining about her heels, the writers hit it off when discussing their upcoming book projects. The connection is getting exciting just as Aidan and Carrie’s romance begins to fracture, an effect of their agreement from the end of And Just Like That season 2, which is souring in season 3.

Duncan Is Being Set Up To Become Carrie Bradshaw’s Best Love Interest Of All Time

Duncan & Carrie Hit It Off In “They Wanna Have Fun”

And Just Like That season 3, episode 7 set the stage for Carrie and Duncan to take their friendship further. After bonding over their book projects in episode 5, Carrie and Duncan agree to look over each other’s manuscripts. Duncan coincidentally delivers his to Aidan in the next chapter. In “They Wanna Have Fun,” Carrie is enthralled by Duncan’s work.

In episode 7, Carrie returns the gesture, hesitantly bestowing Duncan with the first chapter of her period fiction novel. Much to Bradshaw’s surprise, Duncan thinks Carrie’s work is electric, and he showers her with compliments when he asks her to join him on the terrace during Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Carrie’s impromptu party for Charlotte (Kristin Davis).

Carrie and Duncan’s chemistry is undeniable, though Carrie denies it.

Duncan gushing over Carrie’s work has a significant effect on Bradshaw, who’s been too busy dealing with conflict with Aidan to enjoy the lighter aspects of romance that her interaction with Duncan hints at. While Carrie is hesitant to admit there’s a spark with Duncan when she and Miranda debrief, Carrie and Duncan’s chemistry is undeniable, though Carrie denies it.

Since Sex and the City’s revival began, Carrie’s love stories have mainly been grounded in her relationships from the past, with Aidan and Big, and Duncan would give her something completely new. Furthermore, when looking at the complete landscape of Carrie Bradshaw’s love interests in Sex and the City, Carrie has dated writers in the past, gravitating to them.

Carrie is finally getting this story in Sex and the City’s revival as she navigates life alongside Aidan Shaw in And Just Like That season 3.

While Carrie and Duncan sharing a career doesn’t necessarily equate to long-term fulfillment, Bradshaw has traditionally been drawn to partners who share her lifestyle and intellectual interests. Carrie dated Jack Berger (Ron Livingston) and a writer named Ben (Ian Kahn), but in both circumstances, one or the other was too insecure about the connection, which Duncan and Carrie could avoid.

Sex And The City Already Told Us Why Carrie & Aidan’s Revival Romance Is Doomed 23 Years Ago

Sex and the City already told its most invested fans 23 years ago why Carrie and Aidan’s romance isn’t working in And Just Like That season 3.

Carrie was still going the distance despite her major relationship hurdles, traveling to see the Shaw family in Virginia, and staying patient while waiting for Aidan to fulfill his parenting duties. That said, Aidan’s confession that he cheated on Carrie could break everything. Though she didn’t interpret it as a betrayal, the confession left her reeling at Aidan’s expectations.

Carrie finally breaks in “They Wanna Have Fun,” snapping at Miranda for asking about Duncan. Carrie was probably just frustrated with her situation, and her close friend’s curiosity was the straw that broke the camel’s back. A shift is happening in And Just Like That, potentially leading to a long-overdue romance for Carrie that reaches beyond Big and Aidan.
