Game Of Thrones Reunion In New Gothic Horror Movie Sets “Weird” Romantic Dynamic For Stars

Game Of Thrones cast members are reuniting for an intriguing new horror movie, but the romantic dynamic between their characters proved a little odd. Based on the A Song of Ice and Fire book series by George R. R. Martin, the fantasy drama remains one of the most popular HBO series of all time.

After premiering in 2011, the hit show came to a divisive conclusion in 2019 with season 8. Though the show may now be over, the world of Westeros lives on in the House of the Dragon spinoff show, with several more Game of Thrones spinoffs in the works, including A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight.

The main Game of Thrones cast, though, bid farewell to the franchise in 2019, their characters’ arcs concluded. Many who appeared in the show have gone on to participate in various exciting projects in the world of TV and movies. Bella Ramsey, for example, now leads HBO’s The Last of Us.

Kit Harington and Sophie Turner eventually became two of the most important actors on Game of Thrones. They played Jon Snow and Sansa Stark, respectively, across all eight seasons. Though their time in Westeros is over, both remain notable stars, and they’re not set to collaborate on a new film.

Sophie Turner Teases “Weird” Dynamic In The Dreadful

The Horror Film Is An Unexpected Game Of Thrones Reunion

Turner offers an interesting tease about The Dreadful, her upcoming reunion with Harington. Written and directed by Natasha Kermani, the horror film stars Turner as Anne, a woman who lives a solitary life with her mother-in-law on the outskirts of society. When a figure from her past returns, however, he initiates a series of events that changes everything.

Harington plays Jago in the film, the mysterious figure from Anne’s past. The two former Game of Thrones stars are joined in The Dreadful‘s cast by Marcia Gay Harden as Morwen, the mother-in-law, as well as Laurnce O’Fuarain, Jonathan Howard, Catherine McDonough, Zachary Cohen, and Tigerlily Langford.

Sophie Turner’s Favorite Game Of Thrones Scene Proves The Show Failed Sansa

Sophie Turner’s favorite Game of Thrones scene is much more lighthearted than the situations we usually see Sansa in, highlighting a key failing.

During a recent interview with Vogue, Turner reveals that Anne and Jago will be former romantic partners in The Dreadful. While the star remains tight-lipped about the surprises to come in the movie, she does say that it was “weird” playing a romantic dynamic with the star who played her brother for so long. Check out her comment below:

“I did a movie last year which I’m really excited about with my old but very good friend Kit Harington, who played my brother on Game of Thrones. We’re doing a gothic horror. But we play lovers. Sorry, guys. It’s really weird for all of us.”

What This Means For The Dreadful

The New Dynamic Could Be An Interesting Selling Point

Jon Snow Sansa Stark reunion

The Dreadful doesn’t yet have a release date, a trailer, or any promotional imagery, so much remains unknown about the film and what it will look like. Purely in terms of anticipation, however, a mini Game of Thrones reunion could certainly help to generate hype, especially with the dynamic between Turner and Harington set to be such a departure.

Both stars have worked regularly since Game of Thrones ended. Harington has appeared in the acclaimed Industry series, in addition to having a supporting role in Eternals (2021). Turner, meanwhile, appeared in The Staircase miniseries and Do Revenge (2022), and is reportedly attached to a Tomb Raider Amazon show.

It remains to be seen how The Dreadful will fit into both stars’ career arcs, but it could help the two actors to further separate themselves from the world of Westeros. In any case, the film is evidently set to make some major changes from Game of Thrones.
