Warning! Spoilers ahead for Fantastic Four: First Steps #1!The Fantastic Four’s Invisible Woman is undoubtedly the team’s most powerful member, and not just because of her amazing powers. Though audiences have yet to see Marvel’s First Family in action on the big screen, a prequel comic has shown fans what the team’s world is like and the influential role that Susan Storm actually plays in it.
In Fantastic Four: First Steps #1 by Matt Fraction and Mark Buckingham, an invasion led by Mole Man causes the team to debut themselves for the first time. They spring into action, and Invisible Woman is able to stop the monstrous Giganto by cutting off his air supply. However, the team still has to deal with Mole Man.
Once they get Mole Man locked up, Susan takes it upon herself to speak with him. She offers to help Mole Man and the people of Subterranea, and even speaks to the United Nations to have his society formally recognized. Invisible Woman actions help usher in a new era of peace between humanity and the Moloid people.
Invisible Woman is the Fantastic Four’s Heart and Greatest Hero
Susan Storm is Out to Change the World as a Politician
The Fantastic Four all have their strengths. Reed is the smartest person alive, Johnny is fearless and Ben gets up no matter how many times he’s knocked around. But the driving force behind Susan has always been her compassion and levelheadedness. Her powers might make her the Invisible Woman, but it’s her personality that makes her a hero.
This in-universe comic shows that Invisible Woman is undoubtedly powerful and able to think on her toes in the middle of combat. However, more than just her powers, Sue is a leading and respected politician. Instead of demonizing Mole Man, she takes time to understand him and genuinely help him and his people, the act of a truly powerful hero.
Invisible Woman Demonstrates the True Strength of the Fantastic Four
Marvel’s Iconic Team is Out to Save the World However Possible
While the Fantastic Four is a team of superheroes, they’re not just about beating supervillains. They all want to make the world nicer for everyone. Nothing shows that better than Susan using her political influence to get Subterranea recognized by the rest of the world. Invisible Woman’s strength doesn’t come from her power, but her willingness to fight for everyone.
