Alan Tudyk’s sci-fi comedy series, with a 98% on Rotten Tomatoes, has been canceled just weeks before its season 4 finale. Alan Tudyk has worked on dozens of TV shows throughout his multi-decade career, and he’s no stranger to the industry’s risks.
Tudyk has found numerous successes in his career, with roles in classics like Rogue One, Dodgeball, Moana, and more. However, with enough time working on television, one is bound to be on a show that gets canceled, and Firefly is one of the most infamously discontinued shows of all time. Tudyk’s latest series is equally unfortunate.

Alan Tudyk’s Sci-Fi Series Will End After The Next 3 Episodes
Resident Alien has officially been canceled weeks before its season 4 finale (via TV Insider), meaning the August 8 episode will now be the series finale for the USA Network’s dramedy series. As of now, the series still has three episodes to go.
On the matter, Resident Alien’s creator and showrunner Chris Sheridan shared, “I knew going into it that this was likely going to be our final season.” He and the writing staff planned for the possibility that this could be the ending and focused on wrapping up the overarching narrative, meaning audiences can look forward to a decisive conclusion.

I was really annoyed by Resident Alien season 3 for a specific reason, but it thankfully sounds like season 4 won’t repeat the same mistake.
Sheridan goes on to explain that the season 4 finale will have a “very satisfying ending“ and that the door is being left open for the franchise to potentially continue in the future. Whether that could happen is far from certain, and will be in the hands of the USA Network.
Despite the show’s cancellation, Resident Alien season 4 will proceed as planned, with its expected release dates remaining unchanged. The show will be released on USA Network and subsequently on Peacock.
Our Take On Resident Alien’s Cancelation
Television Is Losing An Underappreciated Gem
Resident Alien has been critically acclaimed as an intelligent sci-fi dramedy throughout its run, but it’s never been a ratings magnet. The first season averaged barely over 1 million viewers per episode, and data suggests a decline since then, excluding viewership on Netflix.

Sci-fi icon Alan Tudyk’s portrayal of Harry Vanderspeigle on Resident Alien has been incredible and deserves more love, especially from Firefly fans.
There might be a devoted audience for this series, but it’s challenging for classic cable channels like USA Network to compete in the streaming era, even with the help of NBCUniversal and Peacock. At the very least, Resident Alien was given a final run to conclude its stories.
