Breaking Bad has had three spinoffs ever since the original show ended in 2013, and thankfully, one of the most different ones isn’t actually canon. The critically acclaimed series is considered one of the best crime dramas of all time. However, its success has also followed it beyond the original story thanks to multiple spinoffs in the last decade.
This includes the critically praised El Camino, a sequel story following Jesse after the end of Breaking Bad. It also includes Better Call Saul, which ended up being considered just as much a modern classic as the original series. But there was a third spinoff produced that, thankfully, isn’t canon to any of the other shows in the crime universe.
Slippin’ Jimmy Was Technically The Third Breaking Bad Spinoff
It Was A Short Series Exclusive To AMC+
Breaking Bad found success with its primary spinoffs. El Camino gave Jesse a proper sendoff after the events of the original series, bringing his character full circle by the end of the film. In addition, Better Call Saul‘s characters, from old faces to new, offered a detailed backstory that fit together with the original show like a lost puzzle piece.

The Show That Surpassed Breaking Bad Premiered 10 Years Ago And Has A 98% RT Score
Breaking Bad is easily one of the greatest shows of all time, but it has been surpassed by a 98% RT series that premiered 10 years ago.
But the show also had a third spinoff in the form of Slippin’ Jimmy. An animated series for AMC+, the comedy follows a young Jimmy McGill and his friend, Marco, as they get up to trouble in Cicero, Illinois. The short-form series lasted for six episodes, which were all dropped on the streaming platform together on May 23, 2022.
There Is No Way Slippin’ Jimmy Is Canon To Breaking Bad
The Premise & Events That Unfold Clearly Don’t Fit The Larger Narrative
Slippin’ Jimmy is much less grounded than the other shows in Breaking Bad‘s universe. The series includes events that wouldn’t make sense within the realism of the previously mentioned spinoffs. It was clearly made to capitalize on the success of the original series, an attempt at branching out beyond live-action for the brand.
The series’ approach to Jimmy’s past isn’t very serious, using cartoonish humor that wouldn’t have a place in the rest of the canon.
It makes it clear the spinoff was just a piece of content for AMC+ and not something meant to weave with the wider narrative of Breaking Bad‘s universe. The series’ approach to Jimmy’s past isn’t very serious, using cartoonish humor that wouldn’t have a place in the rest of the canon. This makes it decidedly not canon to the franchise.
Don’t Waste Your Time Watching Slippin’ Jimmy
The Show Is Reviled By Audiences
The series also didn’t get very good audience reception, either. The show holds a 34% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes and a 2.8 out of 10 on IMDb. These scores are a reflection of just how bad the spinoff is, adding nothing substantial to the shared universe. Instead, it’s clearly a show not meant to be taken seriously.
Because of how it’s presented and the negative responses to it, Slippin’ Jimmy is clearly not canon to the larger Breaking Bad universe. It’s thankfully easy to ignore, with the other two shows and the movie more connected to one another. Luckily, it doesn’t seem like the spinoff will be considered canon anytime soon either.
