As revealed at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, an actor from Rick & Morty season 2 is returning for the upcoming spinoff in a new role. The long-running animated sci-fi comedy is going strong, having debuted Rick & Morty season 8 in May. But alongside the adventures of the titular duo, the franchise recently confirmed a new spinoff.
It was announced at San Diego Comic-Con that veteran actor Keith David will reprise his role as President Curtis for a planned spinoff at Adult Swim. It would be a major spotlight for The President, who was first introduced in the main show’s second season. But another familiar voice from that year will be back.
Also at San Diego Comic-Con, with ScreenRant in attendance, it was announced that actor Jim Rash would voice a half-lerechaun character in the President Curtis spinoff. Rash, known for his voice in the sitcom Community, and seen recently in Prime Video’s Ballard, previously voiced Glexo Slimslom in Rick & Morty season 2.
What The President Curtis Spinoff Means For Rick & Morty
The Longtime Rival Takes The Spotlight
President Curtis is set to follow the Commander-in-Chief and his eccentric staff. They focus on the kind of crises that Rick Sanchez could never be bothered with, whether it’s interdimensional diplomacy or paranormal investigations and overall unexplained phenomena. Along with Curtis and Rash, the voice cast includes Brooklyn Nine-Nine alum Stephanie Beatriz.
The project hails from James Siciliano and Rick & Morty creator Dan Harmon. They executive produce alongside Danielle Uhlarik, Monica Mitchell, and Steve Levy. It marks the latest spinoff for the franchise, coming on the heels of Rick and Morty: The Anime. The main series also has a strong future, with Rick & Morty season 9 in production.

It Sounds Perfect
Keith David is a voice acting legend. Rash and Beatriz have a number of standout credits in their own right, with Beatriz playing a pivotal role in Bojack Horseman and leading the Disney hit Encanto. As they officially join the Rick & Morty cast, they’ll only strengthen the spinoff.
