Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for Dexter: Resurrection season 1, episode 4.Peter Dinklage recently debuted in his first TV show since starring in Game of Thrones, but his new role couldn’t be more different from Tyrion Lannister. Playing Tyrion Lannister in Game of Thrones was arguably the best role Peter Dinklage has ever had. He was Tyrion, he received almost universal praise for his performance, and many fans have wondered if he’d ever play another TV character after Tyrion.
Peter Dinklage has only had two television roles since the ending of Game of Thrones, as he’s focused more on movies like Brothers and Cyrano. The first was a cameo in Rick & Morty season 6, where he voiced Chans for a single episode. Dinklage’s second role since Game of Thrones, however, made him a major recurring character in live-action, and it’s a very different role from Tyrion.
Peter Dinklage’s First Major TV Character Since Game Of Thrones Is A Villain In Dexter: Resurrection
Dinklage Plays Leon Prater, A Billionaire Who Funds & Assembles Serial Killers In Dexter: Resurrection
Peter Dinklage’s first major television role since Tyrion Lannister in Game of Thrones is as Leon Prater in Dexter: Resurrection. Prater made his debut in the acclaimed Resurrection episode 4, and he’s already cemented himself as a very colorful character. Prater assembles and funds a group of serial killers in Resurrection to sate his obsession with true crime and even donate trophies of their kills.
Even after just one episode so far in Dexter: Resurrection, it’s clear that Leon Prater is wildly different from Tyrion Lannister. Prater is obviously a villain – he provides monetary support for serial killers – while Tyrion was much more heroic or at least morally gray. Prater also doesn’t seem like he’s going to get a redemption story in Resurrection, while Tyrion’s growth was one of the best parts of GoT.

Prater and Tyrion are also fundamentally different people. Tyrion was a strategic and political genius with a heart of gold. While he often found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time, Tyrion always had his wits to rely on. Prater, on the other hand, relies almost entirely on his wealth and Charley (Uma Thurman) and comes across as much more of a fanboy than Tyrion ever did.

It’s not just Prater and Tyrion’s personalities and roles within their respective stories that separate them, though. Even after just one episode, it’s pretty clear that Leon Prater is going to have a very different fate in Dexter: Resurrection than the one Tyrion Lannister got in Game of Thrones.

Prater is, once again, a villain in Dexter: Resurrection. Meanwhile, Dexter has a long history of great villains, and they all have one thing in common: Dexter (Michael C. Hall) kills them by the end of their season. Prater is all but guaranteed to end up on Dexter’s kill table by the end of Resurrection, especially if he turns out to be the New York Ripper.
Tyrion couldn’t be killed no matter how many of the most powerful people in Westeros came after him, while Prater is going to die in his debut season.
Dinklage’s role in Resurrection is a complete 180 from Tyrion Lannister in Game of Thrones. Tyrion was one of a handful of characters to survive all eight seasons of Game of Thrones, and he did so despite almost constantly having someone try to kill him. Tyrion couldn’t be killed no matter how many of the most powerful people in Westeros came after him, while Prater is going to die in his debut season.

The number of differences between Leon Prater and Tyrion Lannister really highlight just how much range Peter Dinklage has as an actor. He’s as comfortable playing a beloved, snarky anti-hero in a fantasy setting as he is playing an overeager, wealthy villain in a crime thriller. Dexter: Resurrection just proved that Peter Dinklage can handle any kind of character he wants to.
