Of all the kills in the Scream franchise, it is one that most fans forget that proved to be the goriest. Starting with the original Scream in 1996, the franchise subverted the tropes of slasher movies and changed the genre forever. Of course, it still delivers on horror expectations, like bloody kills.
The Ghostface killers may get creative at times, using anything from a garage door to a shotgun to take out their victims. While these masked killers have tallied some impressive kill counts in the Scream movies, the franchise isn’t really known for gore. However, one kill from a Scream sequel shows how bloody Ghostface can get.
Olivia’s Death In Scream 4 Is The Franchise’s Goriest Moment
The Forgotten Character Meets A Particularly Gruesome End
Olivia (Marielle Jaffe) is not a particularly memorable character in Scream 4 and exits the movie earlier as one of the first major kills. However, it is the way in which she goes that is memorable and offers some of the most shocking moments in the entire Scream franchise, simply for how gory her death is.
Olivia is the next-door neighbor to Jill (Emma Roberts) and one of her closest friends. As Jill and Kirby (Hayden Panettiere) hang out at Jill’s house, they get a call from Ghostface, who threatens them and claims to be hiding in the closet. However, they realize too late that the killer meant Olivia’s closet.
It is a shocking moment for a franchise that is rarely so graphic.
The killer bursts out of the closet and begins viciously stabbing Olivia, with her friends too far to save her. When Sidney (Neve Campbell) finally arrives to help Olivia, the poor teen lies dead on her bed with her entrails hanging out. It’s a rather shocking moment for a franchise that is rarely so graphic.

Let’s Be Real, The Best Scream Sequel Is Actually Also Its Most Forgotten Entry
Scream is an iconic horror movie and its sequels are all good but there’s one that stands out above the rest even if it’s the film nobody talks about.
Scream 4 was the first Scream movie in over a decade, and Olivia’s death partially feels like it is trying to take things to another level. It could also be a bit of the meta-commentary the franchise is known for, as Scream 4 makes reference to the Saw movies and other gore-filled horror movies that were popular at the time.
Scream Isn’t Known For Brutality, But A Few Other Scenes Stand Out
Scream Can Be Bloody When It Wants To Be
The Scream movies have made for one of the most beloved horror movie franchises, but its reputation was not earned through gore. These movies are certainly violent, but are mostly confined to characters getting slashed and stabbed by Ghostface. However, there have been some rare moments that compete with Olivia’s brutal death.
The death that started it all still remains a vicious one, as Casey (Drew Barrymore) is viciously stabbed by Ghostface as she tries to flee. It is also an emotional kill, as her parents hear her dying over the phone, only to find her gutted and hanging from a tree in their front lawn. It is a horrifying way to start the franchise.

The Scream Franchise’s Third Killer Theory Explained
Since its initial release in 1996, the Scream franchise has sparked numerous fan theories and debates, including the prominent “third killer” theory.
Scream VI is the franchise’s bloodiest entry thus far, and there’s one kill that really stands out in its brutality. Anika (Devyn Nekoda) had already been stabbed as she tried to join the others in escaping the apartment via a ladder. However, Ghostface comes and shakes the ladder, sending her falling to the ground, smashing her head off a dumpster.
It remains to be seen if the upcoming Scream 7 will attempt to add to the gore of the Scream franchise, but there has yet to be a moment as brutal as Olivia’s bloody death.
