The Canadian drama Murder In A Small Town adds three new faces to the season 2 cast. The series, which is inspired by a series of novels set in British Columbia by L. R. Wright, as the title implies, follows murder investigations in a small town. It also follows the romance between the new police chief and the town librarian.
Variety originally broke the news that season 2 of the series is set to expand the number of small town inhabitants the audience gets to meet. Marci T. House (Tracker), Bethany Brown (Watson), and Joshua Close (Fargo) have all been added to the cast of Murder In A Small Town.
House, whose credits also include Netflix’s short-lived Julie and the Phantoms as well as the crime drama Happy Face, joins the series as Angela Clyburn, the medical examiner. Per the official character description, Angela is “brisk, brusque, and capable.” She is also a newly single mom and a hard worker.
Prior to season 2, Angela also has yet to meet series lead Karl Alberg (Rossif Sutherland). Though she knows him by reputation, season 2 is when she gets an introduction to his style of investigation.
Brown, whose credits also include F***, Marry, Kill and The Good Doctor, will play Corporal Laila Jackson. Jackson actually knows Karl from her previous work as a police officer in Minneapolis. There, she was on the track to become a detective, and as season 2 begins, she has been on the local force for a few months.
Jackson will also be carrying some baggage with her as she joins the series. A recovering alcoholic, she will find herself under a tremendous amount of stress when she is overworked due to understaffing issues.
Close has also appeared in Killers of the Flower Moon and Plan B. He will join Murder in a Small Town season 2 as Todd, a local unhoused man who is an avid reader. Todd frequents the local library, but he becomes the subject of an investigation when he is believed to be connected to a violent crime.
What The New Casting Means For Murder In A Small Town
The Town’s Stories Are Expanding
The first season of Murder In A Small Town largely focuses on Karl and Cassandra (Kristin Kruek), though members of the local police department did play bigger roles in the stories than most of the small town’s residents.
Murder In A Small Town season 2 was already announced to have more episodes, but with new cast members joining the series, the stories will expand along with the cast size.
Murder In A Small Town will get to flesh out its titular small town in season 2 thanks to the new characters. The varied cast members, including a new police officer, a medical examiner, and a town local, mean that how the show demonstrates the investigative process is also expanding.

Murder In A Small Town Season 2’s Renewal Forces A Major Change To Kristin Kreuk’s Thriller
Murder In A Small Town season 2 will face an exciting new challenge now that Fox has renewed Kristin Kreuk and Rossif Sutherland’s crime thriller.
The inclusion of a medical examiner who has never met the main character, for example, means that the investigations will become more in-depth. The inclusion of someone from his past should also help flesh out more backstory. A local connected to a crime creates a new mystery to explore.
All of those new additions will be welcomed by the audiences.
Our Take On Murder In A Small Town Season 2’s Cast Additions
Character Actors Make For Great Drama Additions
House, Brown, and Close are all modern-day character actors. Much of their work on television has been in smaller guest roles or as recurring characters. They are each able to transform themselves to fit their roles and should be fantastic additions to the already talented ensemble.
Murder in a Small Town season 2 will premiere on September 23 on FOX.
The trio of new additions to Murder In A Small Town should be able to demonstrate their strengths as the roles all sound very different than parts they have played in the past. Their announcement in these roles also likely means these are not characters that will only appear in a handful of episodes before disappearing again.
Murder In A Small Town season 2 should offer each of these character actors roles they can really sink their teeth into.
