It’s hard to believe an episode of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia that starts out with Charlie eating raw hot dogs is not the grossest thing consumed by any of the main characters. It’s Always Sunny season 17, episode 5, “The Gang Goes to a Dog Track,” does just that.
The gang travels outside the Philadelphia city limits to a dog track in West Virginia, where Frank hopes to win big at gambling. Frank claims that he owns 40% of a race dog and ends up winning his first race, which sends Dee and Dennis on an unhinged gambling binge that results in them eating literal dog food.
Dennis & Dee’s Dog Food Breath Scene Calls Back To An Insult Against Charlie In It’s Always Sunny Season 8
Charlie Got Told His Breath Smells Like Dog Food In Season 8
In It’s Always Sunny season 8, episode 8, Charlie meets “QueenOfThrones” at Paddy’s Pub. After Charlie gives her a box of spiders, she throws her drink at him and says his breath smells like dog food. While this is on brand for Charlie, we never actually see him eating any dog food.
After Dee and Dennis flee from the contest, they try to talk to each other, but can’t help but gag because of the stench of dog food in each other’s breath.
This scene is reminiscent of Dee and Dennis’s dog race in It’s Always Sunny season 17, episode 5, in which they are forced to eat dog food as part of a competition to break even on their debt. Frank ends up losing $15,000 on the bet when Dee and Dennis fail to complete the task.
After Dee and Dennis flee from the contest, they try to talk to each other, but can’t help but gag because of the stench of dog food in each other’s breath. They surely must have felt exactly how “QueenOfThrones” did back in season 8, smelling Charlie’s breath.
Shockingly, Dennis & Dee Are The First Characters To Eat Dog Food In It’s Always Sunny (Not Charlie)
Frank & Charlie Have Been Known To Eat Cat Food, Though
Though Charlie and Frank have been known for eating cat food in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Dee and Dennis are shockingly the first characters in the show’s 20-year history to actually be shown eating dog food onscreen. It makes for quite a disgusting, albeit absolutely hilarious watch.
