The MCU just released its latest show, Eyes of Wakanda, on Disney+. It follows Ironheart as the latest MCU show and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man as the latest Marvel Studios Animation production. Given the MCU’s track record with its animations, the new series has a high bar to clear.
MCU animations are fairly rare but often celebrated, with X-Men ’97 being a stand-out example. Unlike X-Men ’97, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, and What If…?, however, Eyes of Wakanda takes place in the same continuity as the mainline MCU’s Earth-616.
Nevertheless, most of the anthology series’ episodes take place in the past, stretching back as far as 1260 BC. It focuses on Wakanda’s elite Hatut Zeraze forces, also known as War Dogs, and their special missions to retrieve vibranium artifacts around the globe.
Marvel’s New Show Eyes Of Wakanda Is Now Streaming On Disney+
Eyes of Wakanda has officially landed on Disney+ as of August 1, 2025. It expands on the history of Wakanda after the fictional nation made a splash in two of the MCU’s best-rated movies, Black Panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Ryan Coogler, who directed both Black Panther movies, developed the series with his production company, Proximity Media. Prolific MCU storyboard artist, Todd Harris, is the show’s creator and showrunner. It has received a positive reception from critics, boasting an 89% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes at the time of writing.

So far, one of the main criticisms leveled at Eyes of Wakanda is that it is too short, with all four episodes of the anthology series being immediately available to stream. Each episode is also around 30 minutes long, meaning the whole series can be viewed in the same amount of time as the average MCU movie.
What You Need To Know Before Watching Eyes Of Wakanda
Eyes of Wakanda is largely a standalone series, although it is worth watching both Black Panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever to gain a deeper understanding of the wider context. Both movies delve into Wakandan culture and the importance of Vibranium, as well as its versatile uses and centrality to highly advanced Wakandan tech.
This advanced tech features heavily throughout the anthology series, proving that Wakanda has been light years ahead of contemporary cultures for millennia. Interestingly, Eyes of Wakanda doesn’t focus on the nation’s leaders and the Black Panther mantle holder, centering instead on the nation’s military and special operations around the world.
Given that Eyes of Wakanda‘s episodes take place centuries before the events of the mainline MCU, it is unlikely that it will have much of an impact on future MCU installments, despite taking place in the same continuity. Still, before Black Panther 3 hits theaters, the anthology show helps add depth to Wakanda’s history.
