Lil Nas X was hospitalized for a possible overdose after roaming the streets of Los Angeles in his underwear early Thursday morning.
Rapper Lil Nas X, wearing only white underwear and cowboy boots, was found walking down a busy Los Angeles street around 4 AM on Thursday, according to a report. The “Old Town Road” star was hospitalized for a potential overdose after the bizarre incident.
Video captured the event, in which the rapper was spotted walking down Ventura Boulevard. Several times, he points at the camera and mentions he was heading to a party. At one point, he puts an orange traffic cone on his head.
Several witnesses called the Los Angeles Police Department to report a half-naked man wandering in the road. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Lil Nas X still walking in the middle of the street.
“After Nas charged at officers […] they subdued him and put him in handcuffs. Officers told paramedics it was a possible overdose, and Nas was transported to a hospital,” reports TMZ, who reports the star could still face charges, according to law enforcement sources.
Lil Nas X, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, became the first openly gay man to receive a Country Music Association award when his breakout hit “Old Town Road” won in 2019. The track also won two Grammy awards and broke the record for the longest-running #1 song on the Billboard Hot 100 at the time, after 17 weeks atop the chart.
The 26-year-old is expected to release his highly anticipated second studio album, Dreamboy, later this year, having teased new music on his Instagram. He also shared on his social media pages back in February that the past few years have been “difficult” for him, which may have culminated in the incident early Thursday morning.
“I’m just now, like, arriving to this place of feeling confidence in myself and what I’m doing,” he shared at the time. “And I’m trying to make sure I put intention towards my music and my vision and the creativity of it all.”
He’s occasionally opened up about his personal life and his decision to step away from the spotlight, telling People in March that he “had to experience a mundane life.”
“I jumped straight into adulthood with extreme fame around me,” he said. “So it was really nice to be just outside walking and meeting people in the streets and eating at restaurants, just even alone, spending a lot of alone time in solitude.”
