Pumping out audio just became even easier: Suno has launched v4.5+, which it says is “powering a new chapter of generative, studio-quality music creation.”
The AI music generator reached out with word of the update, which is live for paid subscribers. As described by Suno, the bolstered model encompasses several new features, the first being an “add vocals” option.
In keeping with the name, this tool enables one to transform instrumentals – either recorded and uploaded or generated directly via Suno – “into a full song by layering in vocals on top,” according to the platform. That includes the ability to swap individual words or entire sets of lyrics.
Similarly, v4.5+’s “add instrumentals” can build on already-recorded vocals, with users specifying the desired output characteristics through text prompts. Lastly, for those in search of an even quicker path to “making” music, “inspire” can power fresh audio mimicking the “vibe” of songs featured in Suno playlists.
Speaking of playlists, Suno, the homepage of which is populated by many collections and new releases, is apparently doubling as a straight streaming platform. In the long term, it remains to be seen whether AI can ever replace human authenticity – a point that’s important commercially and otherwise.
More immediately, though, AI outputs are reaching a growing number of listeners and gradually commanding a larger portion of the spotlight. To some extent, curiosity and media coverage are driving the streaming showing of AI “bands” like The Velvet Sundown.
But the millions of cumulative plays behind works on Suno are presumably attributable at least in part to undiscerning fans who have actually embraced machine-made music.
And as the WavTool owner went ahead and emphasized when announcing the new version, its “features will continue to improve over time with more use.” Elaborating on the idea, co-founder and CEO Mikey Shulman in a statement touted v4.5+ as “a glimpse of the future.”
“I’m really excited about this release,” said Shulman, whose company is making key hires amid high-stakes negotiations with the majors. “We’re not just giving users a better model that makes better music — we’re introducing new workflows that change how music gets made.
“This isn’t a minor upgrade; it’s a glimpse of the future: more people making more music, with better tools, in more intuitive ways,” he concluded.
