The Swedish Royal Court has released new Official Portraits of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden as they announced the plans for the King’s 80th Birthday Celebrations in April and their 50th Wedding Anniversary in June.

The new Official Portraits of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden were taken by Elisabeth Toll at Drottningholm Palace.

In the portrait, the King wears an admiral’s uniform with the ribbon of the Order of the Seraphim, the badge of the order and the kraschan. The King also wears the large badge of the Order of the Sword around his neck and the kraschan of the Grand Cross of the Order of Vasa.
The King also wears King Gustaf V’s Jubilee Commemorative Badge II on the occasion of his 90th birthday (1948), King Gustaf VI Adolf’s Commemorative Medal on the occasion of his 85th birthday (1967), King Haakon VII’s 100th Anniversary Commemorative Medal (1972), King Olav V’s Jubilee Medal on the occasion of 25 years as monarch (1982) and King Harald V’s Jubilee Medal on the occasion of 25 years as monarch (2016).

Queen Silvia wore the Braganza Tiara, Karl Johan Earrings and Emerald Brooch with the Sash and Star of the Order of the Seraphim, and King Carl Gustaf’s Portrait Brooch.
The Queen wears the ribbon of the Order of the Seraphim, the brilliant-cut badge of the order and the brilliant-cut krashan, as well as a brilliant-cut agraff with a miniature portrait of HM the King. In addition, the Queen wears the “Brazilian diadem”.
King’s 80th Birthday Celebrations in April

The King’s 80th birthday is celebrated on Walpurgis Eve, April 30. During the birthday, a thanksgiving service, “Te Deum”, is celebrated for invited guests in the Palace Church.
A major military guard of honour is also given in the outer courtyard of the Royal Palace. From Lejonbacken, the King will also receive a singing tribute and congratulations from the public during the day. A major gala dinner for invited guests is given on the evening of the birthday.
50th Wedding Anniversary Celebrations in June

The King and Queen will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on June 19. As the holiday falls during Midsummer, the day will instead be celebrated on Saturday, June 13.

The golden wedding celebration will begin with a “Te Deum” for invited guests in the Palace Church. During the day, The King and Queen will also travel through Stockholm on the royal sloop Vasaorden and in a horse-drawn cortege. Additional public program items planned for 13 June will be announced later. An exhibition about the King and Queen’s 50 years of marriage is also being arranged at the Royal Palace.
