Donald Trump says UK is ‘very lucky’ to have ‘great people’ like King Charles and Queen Camilla

King Charles has had another glowing endorsement from Donald Trump as the US President prepares for an unprecedented second State Visit this autumn.

President Trump described The King and The Queen as ‘great people’ and said the UK was ‘very lucky’ to have them.

The comments came as Donald Trump and Sir Keir Starmer spoke to the press as the Prime Minister was welcomed to Turnberry by the President.

Donald Trump addressed the prospective State Visit with glowing comments. He told reporters that ”being with Charles, Camilla, everybody…I’ve gotten to know because of four years and now, six months, gotten to know a lot of the family members, they’re great people, they’re really great people, and in that sense I think that the UK is very lucky…”

As Sir Keir tried to interject, Donald Trump continued ”you could have people that aren’t great people, I don’t know if I’ allowed to say that”.

The US President had already spoken of the historic nature of his upcoming State Visit which will see him become the first elected politician ever to be given two such honours.

The invitation for the State Visit came directly from King Charles III and was delivered by hand to Donald Trump in the White House by Sir Keir Starmer on their first meeting after the US President’s inauguration for a second term.

Historic second State Visit for Donald Trump

Donald Trump’s first State Visit came in 2019 during his first four year term as President. Then, he was hosted by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace. It would be the last incoming State Visit that Her Late Majesty hosted during her 70 year reign. The following year, Donald Trump lost the US election to Joe Biden. He was re-elected in 2024 and took power again in January 2025.

Acknowledging the historic nature of his second State Visit, Donald Trump said ”the fact that it’s never been done before, and that’s because it’s non consecutive, that’s the only reason it could be, made it even more interesting…it’s going to be great.”

The State Visit of Donald Trump to the UK will take place between September 17 and September 19 2025. The US President and his wife, Melania, will be hosted at Windsor Castle by King Charles and Queen Camilla.

It is expected that the Prince and Princess of Wales will have a leading role. During the State Visit of French President, Emmanuel Macron, and his wife, Brigitte, to the UK in July 2025, William and Kate met them as they got off their plane and accompanied them on the drive to Windsor where the official welcome took place.

Windsor Castle at heart of spectacular event

King Charles and Queen Camilla joined the Macrons in a carriage ride through Windsor with the Prince and Princess of Wales. At the castle, The King and the French President reviewed a guard of honour before Their Majesties hosted a glittering lunch for their guests and the Royal Family. The spectacular State Banquet took place at Windsor Castle with Queen Camilla wearing the beautiful sapphire tiara belonging to the George VI suite.

The State Visit in September is a crucial event for the UK and King Charles will be at the heart of this demonstration of diplomacy. The three day event takes place during a parliamentary recess so there will be no formal visit to the Palace of Westminster for Donald Trump. However, there is every expectation that he will host talks with political leaders including the Prime Minister as well as the Leader of the Opposition, Kemi Badenoch.

However, it is the Royal Family who will be front and centre at this important time, accompanying Donald Trump on many of his visits. Their role will be crucial in ensuring this historic event is a success.
