The Princess Royal celebrates her 75th Birthday next week! The only daughter of the late Queen and Duke of Edinburgh, and one of the most hardworking members of the family, Princess Anne has amassed quite a large jewellery collection, which includes this Gold Stalactite Brooch!
When Princess Anne was marrying Captain Mark Phillips in 1973, she received several spectacular Wedding Gifts, including Cartier Aquamarine Pineflower Tiara from the Queen Mother, a Diamond Bow Brooch from the then Prince of Wales, and a series of jewels from her mother, the Queen, which included Empress Maria Feodorovna’s Sapphire Choker, a pair of Diamond Cluster Earrings, and this striking Gold and Diamond Stalactite Brooch which was described as a “modern 18 carat gold clip brooch in stalactite style set with diamonds,” and was long erroneously believed to have been made by Andrew Grima.
Princess Anne often wore the Gold Stalactite Brooch for Official Ceremonies and the annual Trooping the Colour Ceremony, often paired with her Grima Pearl Earrings as well as a pair of Gold Flower Earrings also given as a wedding gift by the Queen.
The Gold Stalactite Brooch has often been worn by Princess Anne at Royal Ascot over the years, as well as for Garden Parties at Buckingham Palace and even Christmases at Sandringham and Easter at Windsor Castle.
Princess Anne continues to wear the Gold Stalactite Brooch to this day, with recent appearances at the Platinum Jubilee Service at St Paul’s Cathedral in 2022, the Commonwealth Service at Westminster Abbey in 2024, as well as the Commonwealth Service at Westminster Abbey and a Garden Party at Buckingham Palace earlier this year. There is no doubt we will continue to see this Brooch for years to come!
The Royal Family has shared a new Official Portrait of the Princess Royal and Sir Timothy Laurence ahead of her 75th Birthday next week, which was taken by Getty Images Photographer Chris Jackson ahead of the State Banquet held by the British Royal Family for French President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron at Windsor Castle last month.
