Santhosh Balaraj, a 34-year-old Kannada actor, died Tuesday morning. ‘Kariya 2’ and ‘Ganapa’ were among his most well-known films. According to reports, the actor had been suffering from jaundice for a few weeks, and despite receiving medical attention, his health reportedly got worse. According to Mathrubhumi, Santhosh Balaraj passed away in the intensive care unit of a private hospital in Bengaluru at approximately 9:45 AM. The news has caused shockwaves in the Kannada cinema industry and among fans who regarded Santhosh as one of Sandalwood’s promising stars.
Santhosh carried forward father’s film legacy
The well-known film producer Anekal Balaraj, who produced the 2003 blockbuster “Kariya” starring Darshan, was Santhosh’s father. In 2022, Balaraj lost his life in a traffic accident. Santhosh lived with his mother and was not married. Through his filmmaking, he carried on his father’s legacy.

Santhosh Balaraj rose to prominence after starring in the action movie ‘Ganapa’. Prabhu Srinivas directed the film Ganapa, which was released in 2015. The film proved to be a huge success. It followed the same plot as the Kannada superhit film Kariya. The 2012 love drama film ‘Olavine Ole’, directed by Teshi Venkatesh, received high accolades from fans, particularly for Santhosh’s outstanding performance.
‘Olavine Ole’ starred Neha Patil as the female lead, and the plot revolved around honour killings. Santhosh starred as Kanteerava in Chakravarthi’s 2013 film ‘Janma’. The premise of the film, which revolves around Kanteerava falling in love with Kaveri, has gained widespread praise. The problem arises when both of their families oppose their romance.
Santhosh Balaraj’s last feature was the 2017 action gangster flick ‘Kariya 2’.
