Mukesh Khanna recently commented on Shah Rukh Khan’s big National Award win and also the criticism that followed.
After 33 years of entertaining audience, Shah Rukh Khan has finally bagged his first National Award. Recently, the winners of 71st National Film Awards were announced. Shah Rukh Khan won for his role in Atlee’s movie Jawan. He won in Best Actor category. Since then, there has been debate on social media suggesting that Shah Rukh Khan should have won National Award long back for his movie Swades. Now, Shaktimaan actor Mukesh Khanna has strongly come out in defense of Shah Rukh Khan and his National Award win.
Mukesh Khanna says Shah Rukh Khan has worked hard for 40 years
Speaking to news agency IANS, Mukesh Khanna shared that there is nothing wrong with Shah Rukh Khan winning National Award for Jawan. He mentioned that King Khan has been working hard for 40 years and that he deserves National Award. Mukesh Khanna also drew comparison with AR Rahman and said, “People who are saying that Shah Rukh Khan should not have received the award for this film (Jawan) but for Swades — remember A R Rahman received the Oscar for ‘Jai Ho’ and not for the various beautiful songs he created in the past.”
Not just Mukesh Khanna, filmmaker Viveck Vaswani too defend Shah Rukh Khan’s National Award win. He took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to pen a post for Shah Rukh Khan. He wrote, “Just putting it out there. It’s a National Award. It’s not small. And Jawaan was a great performance and a relevant film for the times. And AshutoshGowarikar is one of the most ethical people in the industry, I’ve known him longer than SRK!”

After winning National Award, Shah Rukh Khan took to his social media account to express gratitude. He thanked a lot of people and Information and Broadcasting Ministry for the honour. He especially thanked Gauri Khan, Aryan Khan, Suhana Khan and AbRam for being his pillars of strength. Along with Shah Rukh Khan, stars like Vikrant Massey, Rani Mukerji and others have also won National Award.
