Hombale Films released the eagerly anticipated first glimpse of actress Rukmini Vasanth as Kanakavathi, the lead character of the upcoming epic film Kantara Chapter 1, on the holy day of the Varamahalakshmi Festival. The film is a prequel to the 2022 smash Kantara, which redefined rooted storytelling and won praise from critics and fans around the world. It was written and directed by Rishab Shetty, who also plays the lead role. Earlier this year, the makers unveiled Rishab Shetty’s first look on his birthday, causing quite a buzz online.

Following that, the wrap-up video fueled audience interest and excitement. The release of Kanakavathi’s character poster represents the next important milestone in the film’s promotional campaign. Rukmini Vasanth appeared in the poster dressed in traditional clothing and wearing heavy jewellery.

About Kantara: Chapter 1
Kantara: Chapter 1 takes place in Karnataka during the Kadamba era. The Kadambas were important Karnataka kings who had a big influence on the region’s architecture and culture. In Indian history, that era was referred to as the Golden Period. In Kantara, Rishab Shetty not only plays the principal role but also serves as its director. Shetty revealed in 2023 that what viewers saw was actually part 2, meaning that Kantara’s prequel will be the next release.
“We are very pleased and thankful to the audience who had shown immense love and support to Kantara and taking the journey ahead, with the blessing of almighty Daiva the film has successfully completed 100 days and I would like to take this opportunity to announce the prequel of Kantara. What you have seen is actually Part 2, Part 1 will come next year,” he had said.
