Salakaar star Mouni Roy opens up about being typecast after Naagin, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and more shows.
Bollywood actress Mouni Roy managed to turn heads in style with her role in Ekta Kapoor’s supernatural drama show Naagin. She even played the role of fierce Junoon in Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt’s Brahmāstra and slayed it with her exceptional performance. She is switching gears and winning millions of hearts with her various roles. She is currently seen in a spy role in JioHotstar’s upcoming espionage series Salakaar.
Mouni Roy opens up about being typecast
Mouni Roy sets the screen on fire with her role in Salakaar and netizens are appreciating her performance. The actress said that the journey so far has not been without its labels. She has often been stereotyped since the beginning of her career. She has now learned to take it in her stride. During an interview with Showsha, Mouni said that she has been typecast since the beginning of her career. She said that when she did Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, people said the girl next door can’t play a glam part. She even added saying that after she did a few reality shows, dance reality shows, they said I she was too glamorous and when she did Sati, they said Mouni was too Indian.

Mouni said that when she did Naagin, they said that she could only do fantasy fiction or mythological shows. She said that she has always dealt with, and it doesn’t bother her now. She said, ‘It doesn’t matter whether you call me glamorous, stylish, or anything else–like saying she’s good for a certain kind of role.’ She said when she did Brahmāstra or Bhootnii, they said she’s good for these… not larger-than-life, but more outlandish roles. She can play these parts well. She said that her takeaway from all of these roles are when it resonates with the audience and they receive it well.
Mouni said that she is hungry and a greedy actor, in the right sense. She wants to be part of great scripts, good storytelling and work with different, like-minded people. She said that she wants to do roles that she has not done before. She started her career with Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, but gained recognition with Naagin. She has been part of films like Made in China, Brahmāstra, and Romeo Akbar Walter. On the personal front, Mouni is married to Suraj Nambiar, a Dubai-based businessman. The two walked down the aisle in January 2022.
