Abir Gulaal: Fawad Khan-Vaani Kapoor’s film to finally release on THIS date, but there’s a twist
Abir Gulaal starring Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor was to release in May 2025. However, following the Pahalgham terror attack, the release was postponed indefinitely.
Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor’s movie, Abir Gulaal, is once again in the news as the makers have finally decided to release the film in theatres. The film directed by Aarti S Bagdi was supposed to release back in May 2025. However, as the tension between the two countries escalated following Pahalgham Terror Attack, the film’s release was stalled. Now, as per the latest reports, the movie will finally see the light as the makers have decided to release it globally. Allegedly the makers are planning to follow the same strategy as that of Diljit Dosanjh movie, Sardaarji 3.
Abir Gulaal will release on August 29 but… As per a report in BizAsia, the producers of Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor‘s movie, Abir Gulaal are planning to release the movie globally on August 29, but it would not hit the theatres in India owing to the diplomatic tensions between India and Pakistan. Earlier, in June this year, Diljit Dosanjh’s Punjabi movie Sardaarji 3 had also skipped its release in India as the film starred Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in a pivotal role. The gamble worked, and Sardaarji 3 performed well at the global box office. However, Diljit Dosanjh had received major backlash for working with a Pakistani artist. Later, the star had clarified that the decision was taken by his producers and the movie was shot when the relationship between the two countries was stable.
Fawad Khan’s comeback to Bollywood The movie, Abir Gulaal was to mark the return of Fawad Khan to Bollywood after nine years. He was last seen in Karan Johar’s film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. However, after the URI terror attacks, a blanket ban was called on Pakistani artists stalling them from working in India. However, back in 2023, the Bombay Hight Court had reportedly rejected the plea seeking for complete ban on Pakistani artists. As the tension between two countries eased, Fawad Khan’s comeback to Bollywood came into existence with Abir Gulaal. However, the Pahalgam terror attack once again called for a ban on the Pakistani stars. In fact, even the social media accounts of several stars from the neighbouring country were blocked in India.
