With the last full month of summer underway, Netflix has updated its film slate accordingly with several humorous films, some that do delve into back-to-school feelings and even a murder mystery.
In addition to the arrival of new seasons of Wednesday as well as My Life With the Walter Boys this month, two new Netflix originals will book-end August as well.

Happy Gilmore 2 – July 25

Yes, technically this one’s left over from July, but the return of Adam Sandler to the titular golfer role was much anticipated. Christopher McDonald also returned as Happy’s nemesis, and Julie Bowen’s Virginia Venit was back as well. New faces in the sequel film included musician Bad Bunny, football star Travis Kelce and Margaret Qualley as well as Ben Stiller.

My Oxford Year – August 1

Based on the book by Julia Whelan, My Oxford Year follows Anna De La Vega (Sofia Carson) as she journeys across the pond for a year at Oxford studying poetry. Who should she strike up a romance with but her Professor, Jamie Davenport (Corey Mylchreest). Anna also befriends some lovely classmates with whom she spends an unforgettable year. However, there is more to this love story than what’s on the surface. The soundtrack also features several hits from Chappel Roan, Coldplay and more.
Jurassic Park – August 1

For viewers who didn’t get enough of Jurassic World: Rebirth last month, three Jurassic Park Movies landed on Netflix at the beginning of the month. Not much can beat the original 1993 film starring Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum with Richard Attenborough playing Dr. Hammond, but The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997) also directed by Steven Spielberg stars Jeff Goldblum, Julianne Moore, Pete Postlethwaite and Vince Vaugh as well as Richard Attenborough. Jurassic Park III (2001) recruited and reunited Sam Neill’s Dr. Alan Grant and Laura Dern’s Ellie alongside newcomers William H. Macy, Téa Leoni, Alessandro Nivola, Trevor Morgan, Michael Jeter and more.
Clueless – August 1

Another school-set film available on the streamer this month is Amy Heckerling’s Clueless starring Alicia Silverstone as Cher, Stacey Dash as Dionne, Brittany Murphy as Tai and Paul Rudd as Josh. Wallace Shawn guest stars as Mr. Wendell Hall. Cher rules the roost at her Beverly Hills high school, where she plays matchmaker and talks two teachers into dating each other while trying to find romance in her own social life.
The Thursday Murder Club – August 28

Based on the best-selling book by Richard Osman, The Thursday Murder Club will provide a twisty mystery akin to the Knives Out film franchise. Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren, Ben Kingsley and Celia Imrie will star as the core quartet and members of the titular club, who find themselves called upon when a real murder mystery occurs at their front doorstep. The film will also star Jonathan Pryce, Henry Lloyd Hughes, Naomi Acki, Daniel Mays and David Tennant as well as Tom Ellis, Ingrid Oliver, Sarah Niles, Paul Freeman and Richard E. Grant. Chris Columbus directed the film, which arrives on the streamer August 28.
