Janhvi Kapoor, Raveena Tandon, Varun Dhawan and other stars REACT to Supreme Court’s order to move D…
A number of celebrities, including Janhvi Kapoor and Varun Dhawan, denounced the Supreme Court’s decision that came on Monday to move all stray dogs in Delhi-NCR to shelters. Here’s what they said.
Animal lovers across the nation protested and voiced their displeasure after the Supreme Court ruled on Monday that all stray dogs in Delhi-NCR should be locked up in shelters. The effort also included support from a number of celebrities, such as Varun Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor, and Dhanashree Verma. Janhvi and Varun took to their Instagram handle to share a note which read, “They call it a menace. We call it a heartbeat. Today, the Supreme Court says – take every stray dog off the streets of Delhi-NCR and lock them away. No sunlight. No freedom. No familiar faces they greet every morning.
“But these aren’t just ‘stray dogs’. They are the ones who wait outside your tea stall for a biscuit. They are the silent night guards for shopkeepers. They are the tails wagging when children return from school. They are the warmth in a cold, uncaring city (sic).”
Sterilisation, adoption can solve dog woes
The note especially emphasised the public’s safety concerns, but it also stated that mass dog sterilisation and other programs, including adoption drives and community feeding zones, can address such issues.
Varun, Janhvi’s note also said…
“A society that can’t protect its voiceless is a society losing its soul. Today it’s the dogs. Tomorrow… who will it be? Raise your voice. Because they don’t have one,” the note concluded.
Dhanashree Verma urged people to…
Dhanashree Verma encouraged Delhi residents to adopt stray dogs and donate generously to animal shelters so that the dogs can receive at least the most basic care.
Raveena Tandon slams local authorities
Raveena Tandon had previously criticised the local authorities for their ineffective efforts to sterilise and vaccinate strays, which compelled the SC to make this ruling. “I feel where the population of indies has increased, it is honestly not these poor dogs to be blamed. It means the vaccination and sterilisation drives aren’t done by local bodies,” she told HT City.
Following Monday’s Supreme Court ruling, activists and animal lovers were spotted protesting in Delhi, where they were subsequently taken into custody by the Delhi Police.
