Mukesh Khanna clarifies on Ranveer Singh playing Shaktimaan: ‘He tried to…’
The 90s favourite show, Shaktimaan, had announced its movie adaptation years ago. However, Mukesh Khanna couldn’t decide on the actor who would play Shaktimaan, as he didn’t want to ruin the image and legacy.
Veteran actor Mukesh Khanna, who is known for his role as Shaktimaan, was a beloved superhero in the 90s and ruled the screen for many years. However, with time, things change, and many new superheroes come up, thus marking the end of the beloved Shaktimaan. But when it was announced that the popular ’90s superhero show was going to be made into a movie, fans got really excited. However, it’s been years since that announcement was made, and so far, they haven’t finalised the casting for the film.
What did Mukesh Khanna say during the interview?
During an interview with Galatta India, Mukesh Khanna said, ‘The IPR is still mine. But we have given them rights for seven years to make a film. Maine likhva dia hai ki film mein Shaktimaan ki aatma change nahi hogi. They have written that we won’t change Shaktimaan’s values.’ However, the actor regrets that he wasn’t able to get a written agreement giving him input on the final casting choice for the lead actor in the movie. ‘I couldn’t get it in writing that the actor would be cast with my permission. They are like, we will ask you for sure, but the final call will be ours,’ Mukesh added.
What did Mukesh say about the superhero image?
The Shaktimaan star said that he can’t let his superhero image go bad and said, ‘If Shaktimaan is dancing in a disco and I say that I don’t like it, you would still do what you want. Then what’s the point of asking me? You can’t show Raavan in the role of Raam.’
However, there are rumours that Ranveer Singh will be playing the role of Shaktimaan, but Mukesh Khanna never approves of him. Mukesh recalled meeting Ranveer and said, ‘Ranveer came to my office, sat with me for three hours. Very nice meeting, very nice actor and human being. He was very interested in the role, and he tried to convince me so much. Ultimately, I always knew that he couldn’t be cast in Shaktimaan’s role.’
Mukesh Khanna clearly said that Ranveer was a great actor, but never approved of being Shaktimaan. The actor further went on to say that he’s not backing down now and that “it’s a war.” He’s prepared to take legal action if needed.
