Mrunal Thakur apologizes to Bipasha Basu over manly comment: ‘It was playful…’
Son of Sardaar 2-star Mrunal Thakur found herself at the center of a controversy after her comment on Bipasha Basu went viral. Now, the actress has released an official statement on the same.
Mrunal Thakur has finally released an official statement over her controversial video. The actress issued a heartfelt apology after an old interview clip went viral on social media, making remarks about Bipasha Basu’s appearance. As soon as the video went viral, Mrunal Thakur faced severe criticism over her mean comments. On Thursday, the Son of Sardaar 2 star addressed the matter through a note on her Instagram Stories. Without naming Bipasha directly, she admitted she should have been more thoughtful. “Nineteen-year-old me as a teenager said many silly things,” she wrote. “I didn’t always understand the weight of my voice or how much words, even in jest, could hurt. But they did, and for that I am deeply sorry.”

Mrunal went on to clarify that her intention was never to body-shame. “It was playful banter in an interview that went too far. I understand how it came across and truly wish I had chosen my words differently. With time, I’ve grown to appreciate that beauty comes in every form, and that’s something I truly value now.”
The resurfaced clip featured Thakur alongside her Kumkum Bhagya co-star Arjit Taneja. In the video, Taneja jokingly asked her to do a headstand, to which she replied he could sit while she balanced on her head. When he suggested push-ups instead, Thakur quipped that he might want to marry a muscular woman and gave Bipasha as an example, saying, “Go marry Bipasha… Listen, I am far better than Bipasha, okay.”
Following the clip’s circulation, Bipasha Basu appeared to respond indirectly through her Instagram Stories, posting: “Strong women lift each other up. Get those muscles, beautiful ladies… we should be strong. Muscles help you attain good physical and mental health forever! Bust the age-old thought process that women should not look strong or be physically strong.”
Thakur, now 33, is currently enjoying the release of Son of Sardaar 2, which hit theatres on August 1. Basu, meanwhile, has kept a low profile in the entertainment industry since her 2020 web series Dangerous, in which she starred alongside her husband, Karan Singh Grover.
