The Ba***ds Of Bollywood Review: Aryan Khan’s directorial debut is currently streaming on Netflix. The 7-episode series is marketed as being genre-defying and combining quirky wit with self-awareness. Produced by Gauri Khan under Red Chillies Entertainment, the series was created and co-written by Aryan, Bilal Siddiqi, and Manav Chauhan. Fans and celebs have already praised the movie. Having said that, here’s our review of the star-studded series.
The Ba***ds Of Bollywood cast
Moving ahead lets talk about its cast- can’t deny its a HUGE one. It includes Bobby Deol, Lakshya, Sahher Bambba, Manoj Pahwa, Mona Singh, Manish Chaudhari, Raghav Juyal, Anya Singh, Vijayant Kohli and Gautami Kapoor. Also speaking about the cameos, that too in the first episode itself, include Karan Johar and Ranveer Singh. All in all, every actor does full justice to his/her character.
Lakshya is the apt hero
Lakshya’s introduction scene as actor Aasmaan is fantastic. In the first episode, when the stuntman is seen injured and the crew is tensed for who will perform the stunt (the most important scene before climax). Aasmaan comes and pitches that he can perform it with ease. Although his manager warns, but Aasmaan is adamant. He finally shocks everyone by performing the stunt perfectly. Throughout the scene, Lakshya looks heroic, stylish and carrying that swag of an upcoming superstar. He delivers all his dialogues with precision.
Raghav Juyal and Lakshya’s bond
The duo re-united in The Ba***ds Of Bollywood after the movie Kill. The bond between the two is rightly portrayed in the movie. Raghav’s character (Parvaiz) is like a friend, a brother to Lakshya’s character. Parvaiz’s punch lines to Aasmaan will definitely give you the laughter dose.
Ranveer Singh vs Karan Johar
There is a scene in the first episode, where the cast and crew of Aasmaan’s hit movie Revolver, are seen celebrating the its success party. Next, Ranveer Singh and Karan Johar enter the bash. As Ranveer attempts to switch from Karan’s film to SS Rajamouli’s, he and Karan Johar pretend to argue over who built whose career. Did it actually give a hint on what goes on inside the glitzy industry?
Lord Bobby’s ‘dhamakedaar’ entry
There comes the “BAD” of Bollywood, Ajay Talvar (played by Bobby Deol), superstar and an influential figure of the B-town. As he makes his entry, that tattooed hand and strong aura already will give you the goosebumps. It is then well established by his look and subtle dialogue that he is going to be the bad news for Aasmaan.
A dig at Sameer Wankhede?
A stern-looking police officer, irritated by the drug usage scenario in the industry, is depicted in the episode clip. Fans immediately pointed out that it may be a jab at Sameer Wankhede. Aryan Khan was arrested by Wankhede, the former zonal head of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), on suspicion of narcotics possession and misuse. Well Aryan, you really got this!
Sahher Bambaa’s nepo-kid struggle
We are then introduced to Karishma Talvar, played by Sahher Bambba. She is the daughter of Ajay Talvar and thus the nepo-kid tag in inevitable. The scene is cut to the round table with movie critic Sanjeev Sharma, who is known to support nepo-kids and so is not liked by Aasmaan. During the round table Karishma talks about her struggles being under the shadow of her father. Hearing this, Aasmaan giggles, which does not go well with Karishma and Ajay as well (who at that time makes a surprise entry at the studio).
The dark side of the film industry
The first episode of The Ba***ds of Bollywood aptly brings out the darker side of the industry but with some wit of course. When Manoj Pahwa’s character Avtaar Singh says, “Yeh industry bohot haraami hain… haath jodke aur girgirakar toh kaam naho milta…”
This shows even though the glam industry might look dreamy from outside, the more you enter it, the more you get to taste the…
