Confirmed! Rajkummar Rao will play cricketer Sourav Ganguly in upcoming biopic
Actor Rajkummar has been confirmed for the role of former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly in his upcoming biopic.
Bollywood star Rajkummar Rao is set to play the role of former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly in his upcoming biopic. The actor has confirmed the role after Sourav Ganguly confirmed for the role in an earlier interview.
What did Rajkummar Rao say during the interview?
In an interview with NDTV, Rajkummar Rao has confirmed the role and said, ‘Now that Dada has already said it, let me also make it official – yes, I am playing him in his biopic. I am nervous… It’s a huge responsibility, but it’s going to be a lot of fun.’
In an earlier interview, cricketer Sourav Ganguly said that he believed that actor Rajkummar Rao is the perfect portrayal of him in his upcoming biopic film, which is set to release in December 2026. The former captain played for the Indian cricket team from 1992 to 2008, had set records for India during his days and added that the filming will start from January.
Ganguly’s thoughts on the film
“It’s going well. It will be released next December. Shooting starts in January. The pre-production, story writing and scripting takes a lot of time. And shooting doesn’t take that much time. It’s about 3 months and then the post-production takes time,” Ganguly told PTI.
However, other details of the film have not yet been revealed. It is expected to be released in December 2026. As per reports, the film might be directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, and he had earlier worked with Rajkummar Rao on the movie Trapped.
