Director and actor of the film Kantara Chapter 1, Rishabh Shetty, has been embroiled in a language controversy during an event in Hyderabad. At a promotional event, Rishabh spoke to the audience in Kannada, angering many Telugu fans. Hashtags like #BoycottKantaraChapter1 began trending on social media. The presence of Telugu superstar Jr. NTR at the event further fueled the controversy. Subsequently, at another pre-release event in Vijayawada, Rishabh Shetty responded to the controversy and said that Telugu and Kannada people are brothers. He said that speaking the local language is a sign of respect for the people, and he always strives to do so. However, he admitted that it can sometimes be challenging because speaking one language can make people from other regions feel marginalized.
What did Rishab Shetty say about language controversy?
In Rishabh’s word: “Telugu people and Kannada people are brothers. Next time I come for Jai Hanuman promotions, I will speak in proper Telugu. I’ve always kept the Kannada language close to my heart. After doing numerous interviews, I’ve made an effort to improve my language skills. I genuinely believe that speaking the local language shows respect to the people, and I try my best. But at times, it becomes challenging, as speaking one language in one region might seem like I’m ignoring others.”
Rishabh Shetty also shared a message on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, “India may have many languages, cultures, and beliefs, but the underlying values remain the same. Wherever I go, I enjoy learning the local language and always strive to do so even with languages I’m not yet fluent in.” With this statement, he made it clear that his intention is never to ignore any language or audience.
