Vishal Brahma, an actor from Student of the Year 2, was arrested at the Chennai airport on Monday for carrying 3.5kg of cocaine, valued at Rs 40 crore.
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) detained the actor with the illegal substance as he was returning to Chennai from Singapore on flight AI 347. As reported by the Times of India, officials discovered that Vishal had 3.5 kg of cocaine in his possession. The operation was conducted by the DRI in conjunction with Chennai Customs. Early in the morning on September 28, the air intelligence officers stopped the actor upon his arrival from Singapore at the airport. Customs officials discovered plastic bags containing a white powder concealed within a fake compartment in the bottom of his trolley bag. Subsequent field testing confirmed that the substance was cocaine.
Links to Nigerian gang
Sources indicate that he may have been recruited by a Nigerian gang. The struggling actor was allegedly enticed to travel to Cambodia for a vacation, during which he was instructed to carry a trolley bag filled with drugs on his return journey. The police are actively investigating the case and working to apprehend the Nigerian gang linked to the crime.
Previous arrests in drug cases
Previously, in June, the Narcotics Act resulted in the arrest of Kollywood actors Krishna and Shrikant. An extensive investigation has revealed a wider connection among drug sales, a job scam, and land grabbing, which was initiated following a fight at a nightclub in early June. In the meantime, the police announced that they obtained call records and the locations of individuals involved through contacts of Prasad. They intimidated these individuals into handing over money.
Senthil, the armed reserve head constable in Madurai, was also arrested during the operation. Vishal appeared in Student of the Year 2, which featured Tiger Shroff, Ananya Panday, and Tara Sutaria in leading roles, where he played a supporting character named Samrat.
