Jyoti claimed her husband had filed an FIR against her, but officers at the spot said no case had been registered and that she had been summoned by an inspector. Eyewitnesses say several police personnel tried to calm Jyoti and urged her to accompany them to the police station. Jyoti, however, repeatedly said she felt publicly humiliated.
Jyoti Threatens Self-Harm, Demands Justice
At one point, Jyoti threatened to consume poison if she did not receive justice. She told officers (translated): “I came here only because society asked me to. If I don’t get justice now, there is no hope. I will eat poison in the house and die. This is the last time I’m saying this. I am from a respectable family a good daughter and daughter-in-law. If I have to go to the police station, I will die here first. Enough is enough. Give me justice.”
