Yu Menglong SHOCKING death mystery deepens: How did Yang Mi's BLOCKED offer and contract change Chinese actor's career?

Yu Menglong Death: The public and the entertainment industry both domestically and internationally have been stunned by the unexpected death of 37-year-old Chinese actor Yu Menglong, who apparently jumped from a Beijing building on September 11. Although the police determined that the incident was an unintentional fall caused by drinking, there is still a great deal of doubt since many people think there may be a far more complicated explanation for his death.

Yang Mi tried to sign Yu, but…

Yu’s former co-star in the popular drama Eternal Love (Three Lives, Three Worlds, Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms), actress Yang Mi, reportedly attempted to sign him to her own talent agency before. However, Yu’s management business, Tianyu Media, imposed stringent conditions that locked him professionally and repeatedly refused to let him out of his contract; some claim that this finally ended his career.

Yang Mi expressed sorrow over Menglong’s death

Early on September 11, Yu passed away in the Sunshine Upper East residential complex in Beijing. Yang Mi expressed her sorrow on Weibo after learning about the tragedy, writing: “Fourth Brother, may you rest peacefully in another world.”

Yang Mi, who created her own company Jiaxing Media, allegedly wanted to bring Yu on board years ago, with plans to develop him alongside budding talents such as Dilraba Dilmurat and Zhang Binbin. Yang was noted for her strong stance against the entertainment industry’s dark culture, asking that her musicians eschew “banquets and backroom deals.” Many admirers now mourn that if Yu had joined Jiaxing, he may have avoided being dismissed for refusing to follow the industry’s hidden norms.

Yang Mi’s offer blocked by Yu’s agency Tianyu

An entertainment blogger known as “Daily Hotspot Highlights” on Sohu.com reported that when Eternal Love became a huge success in 2017, Yang Mi’s team launched an aggressive effort to recruit Yu. They offered excellent terms and even went to Beijing to sign him after his contract expired. However, Yu’s agency, Tianyu Media, stalled the endeavor with a simple response: “Wait.”

Tianyu used clause to lock Yu in long contract

Yang Mi’s team attempted to bargain through intermediaries, including offering a bigger income share and top-tier acting prospects. But Tianyu refused, purportedly citing a “priority renewal clause” hidden in Yu’s initial 2013 contract, which essentially bound him to the firm. According to blogger “Lun Xiaoyu” on Tencent News, Tianyu even raced to renew Yu’s contract after Eternal Love aired, arranging his projects through 2023.
