Deepika Padukone finally BREAKS silence on 8-hour shift row after Spirit, Kalki 2 QUIT: ‘They do not work…’

Actress Deepika Padukone has recently broken her silence on the controversy surrounding her demand for an eight-hour shooting schedule. In an interview with CNBC-TV18, she explained that many male superstars in the Indian film industry have been working only eight-hour shifts for years, but no one has ever questioned this. Deepika said, “By virtue of being a woman, if that’s coming across as being pushy or whatever, then so be it. But it is no secret that a lot of superstars, male superstars, in the Indian film industry, have been working for eight hours for years, and it’s never made headlines.”

What did Deepika Padukone say about the 8-hour shift controversy?

Deepika further stated that although the film industry is called an ‘industry,’ it has never been run as a structured industry. She added, “I don’t want to take names now and make this into a whole thing, but it is very commonly, publicly known that a lot of male actors have been working for eight hours a day for years. A lot of them only work for eight hours Monday to Friday. They do not work on weekends.” Deepika believes that actors should also have the right to set their own boundaries to maintain a balance between work and personal life.

What is the Deepika Padukone-Sandeep Reddy 8-hour shift controversy?

The controversy began when Deepika decided to withdraw from Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s film Spirit and the sequel to Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD. According to reports, Deepika wanted her shooting shifts to be no longer than eight hours so she could spend time with her daughter, Dua. However, the production team did not agree to this condition, leading her to leave the project. Later, Vyjayanthi Movies issued a statement saying that “after careful consideration,” they had decided to part ways with Deepika, as such a film requires “greater dedication.”

Despite the controversy, Deepika remains fully engaged with her career. Deepika is recently shooting for Siddharth Anand’s film King, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Suhana Khan, and Abhishek Bachchan. Additionally, Deepika will soon be seen in director Atlee’s next film, AA22xA6, alongside South superstar Allu Arjun. Deepika says that now she wants to give equal importance to her family and personal life along with work, and that is why she has made an 8-hour shift her new rule.
