Veteran actress and dancer Madhumati has passed away at the age of 87. Famous for her stunning dance moves and expressions in the 60s, 70s, and 80s, Madhumati was compared to the legendary dancer Helen. Following her passing, actor Akshay Kumar paid an emotional tribute, remembering her and saying that she was his first guru. Let’s explore some highlights from Madhumati’s life and career.

Akshay Kumar’s emotional tribute to dancer Madhumati

Akshay Kumar shared an old photo of himself with Madhumati on the social media platform X and wrote, “My first and forever guru. Everything I know about dance, I learnt at your feet, Madhumati ji. Har ada, har expression mein aapki yaad hamesha saath rahegi. Om Shanti.” The photo shows Akshay Kumar in his early career, when he learned dance from Madhumati’s dance academy in Mumbai. It is said that Akshay Kumar received dance training from Madhumati in 1986, and Chunky Pandey was also his classmate at the time. Vindu Dara Singh took to X and wrote, “Rest in peace our teacher and guide #Madhumati ji. A beautiful life led filled with love and blessings from so many of us who learnt dancing from this legend.”

Who was Madhumati?

Madhumati was born in 1938 in a small village in Maharashtra. At the age of 19, she was married with Deepak Manohar. Her mother wanted her to marry Deepak because she admired him. Deepak Manohar was a widower with four children from his first wife. He passed away in 2002, leaving Madhumati to live alone.

Madhumati began her career in 1957 with an unreleased Marathi film. She was a trained classical dancer and proficient in Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Manipuri, and Kathakali. Her dancing skills earned her impressive performances in several Hindi films. Her memorable films include Aankhen, Tower House, Mujhe Jeene Do, Shikari, Amar Akbar Anthony, and Chhoti Bahu. Her dance and expressions earned her a special place in the hearts of cinema lovers.
