The advance bookings of both films have already started, and early indications show that Thamma has taken a big lead over Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat. The viewers are eager to see both movies but Thamma at present holds the top position. As per accounts, Thamma has to date sold tickets worth Rs 95.81 lakh in Hindi and Telugu versions for its first day. Its advance bookings, including blocked seats, have hit Rs 3.79 crores. On the other hand, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat has managed to earn Rs 26.16 lakh on its opening day, taking its total advance bookings, including blocked seats, to Rs 86.30 lakh. The statistics straightforwardly point to the fact that Thamma will have a great opening on the eve of Diwali.

The film Thamma is said to be part of the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe, and this association is one of the primary reasons why a huge opening response is expected for the film. Its a horror-comedy, and the previous films from this universe have been making it to the box office and also have great fan following in the past years. At the same time, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat is attracting attention for its romantic music and star cast. However, it got an ‘A’ rating which has led to rumors of slow opening for the movie. Nevertheless, if the movie encourages good reviews and gets the right kind of word of mouth then it can perform well in the future.
Diwali last year: the fight and the expectations
The previous year’s Diwali fight was mainly about Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and Singham Again. At that time, Ajay Devgn’s Singham Again Rs 247.85 crores, while Kartik Aaryan’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 was Rs 260.04 crores, which is considered superhit. However, Singham Again did not turn out to be a big hit.
