There have been many actresses in India’s South film industry whose brilliance is still remembered today. One such legendary actress is Sujatha. Sujatha was a legendary actress who had made her mark in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi cinema with her powerful performances. During her career, Sujatha had played lead roles in more than 100 films and pivotal characters in nearly 200 films. She had worked with huge superstars like Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, and Chiranjeevi. However, the actress’s good luck did not seem to be in her favor, as there came a phase in her life that changed everything.
Sujatha and Chiranjeevi’s professional relationship
The pairing of Sujatha and megastar Chiranjeevi is counted among the most memorable onscreen duos in South Indian cinema. The factor that makes the duo stand out is the fact that Sujatha and Chiranjeevi have depicted almost every relationship possible on-screen. In the film Prema Tarangalu, Sujatha played Chiranjeevi’s wife, while in Seetha Devi, she portrayed his younger sister. After that, in Agni Gundam, she played his elder sister, and in Big Boss, she appeared as Chiranjeevi’s mother.
She captivated the viewers with her talent, as the audience was astonished to see her in all these different avatars. Her acting was so impactful that no matter what role she played, she completely dominated the screen.
What made it all go down?
Amid a successful career, Sujatha’s personal life did not support her. She had a love marriage with Jayakar, but her life changed after the wedding. It is rumored that her husband used to force her to work in films for money and would even assault her. Gradually, these circumstances began affecting her career, and she started distancing herself from the industry.
At the age of 58, Sujatha took her last breath in Chennai. According to reports, she passed away due to a cardiac arrest on April 6, 2011. Today, even though she is no longer among us, her memories, as Rajinikanth’s heroine and as Chiranjeevi’s mother, sister, and wife, will forever remain alive in the history of South cinema.
