NewJeans’ agency ADOR launches legal action against deepfakes and malicious posts
All members of the group NewJeans have announced their intention to return to their agency just one year after declaring the termination of their exclusive contracts. Amidst this news ADOR has taken a strong stance against malicious posts and deepfake crimes.
Every member of the group NewJeans has revealed their plan to go back to their agency merely one year after announcing the end of their exclusive contracts. ADOR has adopted a firm position against harmful posts and deepfake offenses. ADOR announced on the 17th, “Since NewJeans’ debut until now, we have been continuously monitoring domestic and international online communities, music sites, and SNS channels, promptly requesting the deletion of posts infringing on artists’ rights and taking strict legal action. We are responding firmly without exception, even against overseas-based sites.”
It additionally detailed, “As we judged that the severity of rights infringement—such as the spread of malicious fake news, invasion of privacy, and use of abusive language and derogatory terms—has escalated, we deployed additional personnel to conduct intensive evidence collection.”
ADOR stated, “We plan to file criminal complaints this month against those who posted malicious content online. Depending on further evidence collection, we will also pursue additional non-regular complaints in the near future.”
Concerning deepfake offenses, ADOR highlighted, “We are responding even more severely. Recently, despite requests for settlements from deepfake perpetrators, we rejected them and conveyed our intent for severe punishment to investigative authorities. We are actively cooperating with law enforcement to eradicate deepfake crimes targeting artists.”
ADOR stated, “Fans’ attention and reports are greatly helpful in our legal response. We kindly ask for active reporting of artists’ rights infringement through the ‘HYBE Artists’ Rights Infringement Reporting Site.’”
On the 12th, ADOR revealed that members Haerin and Hyein wished to continue their activities together and chose to return following discussions.
Around three hours following the announcement regarding Haerin and Hyein’s choice, Minji, Hanni, and Daniel released individual statements expressing their desire to come back. ADOR responded, “We are coordinating individual meetings and will do our best to ensure smooth discussions.”
In the meantime, NewJeans chose not to appeal the initial verdict of the ‘exclusive contract validity confirmation lawsuit,’ which they lost. As a result, the initial ruling affirming the legitimacy of the exclusive agreements between the five NewJeans members and ADOR has been concluded.
