Dhanush and Kriti Sanon’s romantic drama, Tere Ishk Mein, has made a splash at the box office, earning Rs 16.5 crore on its opening day and becoming Dhanush’s biggest Bollywood opener.
Intense love stories are once again taking centre stage in theatres. Tere Ishq Mein was a big surprise with its astonishing first-day earnings. The magic of romantic pictures had nearly disappeared due to the pandemic but this movie has attracted the audience back to the cinemas. The movie featured Dhanush and Kriti Sanon, was released on November 28, and within a few days became one of the most-discussed films of the year. Tere Ishq Mein’s first-day collection was Rs 16 crores, which was surprising beyond imagination. The trade experts’ guess was about Rs 10 crores as the film’s opening but the advance bookings and large audience attendance have contributed to the film’s being the second-highest romantic opening of the year.

The movie was able to keep its momentum during the second day, making Rs 17 crore on Saturday. The domestic total of Rs 33 crore was achieved by the movie within two days. It has already crossed the lifetime collection of Rs 23.75 crore of Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency. The film’s next target would be to beat the collection of Shahid Kapoor’s Deva, which is Rs 55.8 crore and it seems pretty easy for the film considering its current momentum. Tere Ishq Mein has achieved a position of 9th in the highest-opening films list of the year. The first position is held by Chaava with Rs 31 crores, followed by War 2 (29 crores) and Sikander (26 crores). Jolly LLB 3 is at the end of the list with Rs 12.5 crores and Tere Ishq Mein has taken the 9th position.
Following the film’s current trend, it can easily overtake the likes of De De Pyaar De 2, Masti 2, and 120 Bahadur among other releases. If the crowd keeps coming in the same manner on Sunday and later days, then the film’s total for the first three days could cross the Rs 50 crore mark.

Tere Ishq Mein is thought to be a spiritual successor of Raanjhanaa, the 2013 blockbuster. The film is set in Varanasi and depicts the clash of the contemporary and the ancient, the secular and the divine. Dhanush is paired opposite Kriti Sanon. The two lovers are very passionate, yet their love is tinged with suffering and gloom.
