Aamir Khan BREAKS silence on why Dangal was never released in Pakistan: 'Geeta Phogat ke...'

Aamir Khan recently opened up in an interview about why he didn’t release his popular film Dangal in Pakistan despite it being a huge hit at the Chinese box office. The legendary actor revealed that he personally chose not to release the film in Pakistan.

In a recent interview with host Rajat Sharma on the popular TV show Aap Ki Adalat, popular Bollywood actor Aamir revealed why he didn’t release his massive multinational hit film Dangal in Pakistan. The legendary actor and filmmaker revealed that the Pakistani Censor Board wanted him to remove the patriotic scenes from the movie which represented India. “Geeta Phogat ke jeetne par jo tiranga upar jaata hai aur humara rashtra gaan bajta hai, toh aap yeh dono nikal dijiye,” he quoted what the Pakistani censor board had asked.

He recounted how Disney Productions, the co-producer of Dangal, had approached him with this condition and was concerned about the potential financial loss. But Aamir firmly and immediately said, “So I told Disney in just one second that our film will not be released in Pakistan.”

When they warned of business losses, he stood his ground and said he didn’t want business with such people. “Jo humse kahega humara Indian flag nikal do aur humara national anthem nikal do, unse mujhe matlab hi nahi hai.”

The actor also recalled his past experiences of dealing with censorship, especially during the release of his 1999 film Sarfarosh. He noted that it was one of the first Indian films to mention both Pakistan and ISIS directly, which was typically discouraged during that time. The actor added that earlier, the censor board used to suggest to not name the country, and use ‘neighbouring country instead.

Aamir Khan will soon be seen in Sitaare Zameen Par which has been directed by RS Prasanna and features Genelia Deshmukh and Darsheel Safary in key roles. For the unversed, it puts the focus on multiple themes including empathy, and genuine love.
