Popular actor Rakesh Bedi continues to be loved and admired for the diverse roles he has essayed in films and TV shows. While Aditya Dhar’s much-talked-about film dominates headlines for the violence it shows, it is Rakesh Bedi’s powerful yet playful character that has won several hearts. For the unversed, Rakesh Bedi plays Jameel Jamali, a politician in Lyari, Pakistan in the film. As a shrewd politician, he knows how to stay in power even when things don’t work in his favour. He also shows no qualms in getting his daughter marry a man he knows is a violent gangster (Ranveer Singh). All to ensure, his position remains safe. Interestingly, Rakesh Bedi hasn’t revealed any name, but Reddit threads suggest it could be based on Pakistani politicians such as Nabeel Gabol. But Aditya Dhar has maintained that Dhurandhar is a work of fiction which is inspired by real-life incidents.

What did Rakesh Bedi say about his character in Dhurandhar?

In a recent interview with Screen Spotlight, actor Rakesh Bedi spoke at length about his role. The veteran actor referred to the film as ‘intense’ and showed no qualms in saying that his role is ‘violent’ too. “There’s a politician in Pakistan, whom you can spot in the political arenas and the Senate there even today. It’s their Parliament, but they call it ‘Senate’ (laughs). There’s violence ingrained in his thinking and actions,” he explains.

In the same interview, Rakesh Bedi also explained that he had watched the body language and speeches of this real-life Pakistani politician to do complete justice to his role. Rakesh also called this real-life politician a ‘fox’ who remains in power no matter which government is in power. “There are some people like that in India as well, who know how to remain in power by hook or by crook,” he added.

Dhurandhar star Ranveer Singh reacts to the film’s success

Ranveer Singh has been winning hearts for his flawless performance as Hamza in Aditya Dhar directorial Dhurandhar. His mannerism, his look and the intensity with which he performs every sequence has left an indelible impact on the viewers. While reacting to the film’s success, he wrote, “Kismat ki ek bohut khoobsurat aadat hai, ki woh waqt aane par badalti hai… Lekin filhal… Nazar. aur sabr.” Dhurandhar has so far earned about Rs 379 crore nett in India, as reported by Sacnilk.com.
