South star Rashmika Mandanna‘s recent interview wherein she referred to herself as the first actress from Coorg hasn’t gone down well with many. As expected, after Rashmika’s remark from a recent interaction went viral, she was subjected to massive criticism online. Netizens were quick to take to social media to stress on the fact that several other actresses from the region had represented the Kodava community. Her statement also left the Kodava community irked, who had also held her culpable for not being aware of her rich legacy. The actress has not yet reacted to the massive backlash she has been subjected to.
What did Rashmika Mandanna say?
During a recent interview with Mojo Story, Rashmika spoke at length about being a part of the showbiz industry. She had said, “Conversations back home when I got my first paycheck weren’t easy. Because, you know, in the Coorg community, nobody has ever entered the film industry.” Rashmika later said that she is the first one in her entire community to have entered the showbiz industry. “People were extremely judgy,” she added.

As soon as the interaction went viral on X (formerly known as Twitter), a netizen posted, “She is wrong. Even before her there was an actress named Prema.” The netizen stressed on the fact that she has is a superstar in Kannada movies, and have also acted in a few Telugu movies. Another netizen was quick to slam Rashmika in the post, “@iamRashmika Have you ever heard the name of actress #Prema? You wasn’t even born at that time when she was ruling Kannada film industry!” The netizen asked if Rashmika had heard of Daisy Oonnanna, Shwetha Chengappa, Nidhi Subbaiah, Ashika Poonaccha, and Reesh Mananaih. “Dude you seriously lack sense! Get it fixed,” the post further read.
Rashmika Mandanna’s viral comment also managed to catch Neravanda Prema’s attention. The popular Kannada actress had told a news portal, “The Kodava community knows the truth. You should ask her (Rashmika) about her version of the statement. What can I say about it?”
Neravanda further stressed on the fact that before her, there was an actor, Shashikala from Coorg, who had played supporting roles. Later, she entered the film industry, and many Kodavas managed to do well since then.
