‘Baap re…’: Netizens slam Jaya Bachchan for blaming internet for anxiety attacks, daughter Shweta …
Jaya Bachchan asserted that she had never heard of anxiety attacks as a child or even in her middle years. She said that constant exposure to online content about appearance and social comparison is a significant contributing factor of anxiety.
Jaya Bachchan is again making headlines for her new controversial remarks, which she made during a podcast of her granddaughter Navya Naveli Nanda. In a re-released episode of the podcast, Jaya Bachchan seemed to voice her thoughts regarding the negative impact of internet and social media on mental health. “What the hell Navya,” she said, showing her worries about Gen Z’s overexposure to the digital world and how it impacts their mental health. According to her, younger generation feels the need to validate everything online, and this causes unnecessary stress and increases what she calls “anxiety epidemic.”
What did Jaya Bachchan say about Gen Z’s overexposure to internet?
“Navya, what happens among your generation is that ‘answer to the calls quickly, reply to texts quickly’. You get your validation from what you see on the internet and your phone. Are we looking nice? Are we thinking correctly? If you are saying the right thing? All this increases your stress levels,” she shared.
Social media leads to anxiety?
Jaya Bachchan asserted that she had never heard of anxiety attacks as a child or even in her middle years. She said that constant exposure to online content about appearance and social comparison is a significant contributing factor of anxiety.
“We hadn’t heard of an anxiety attack when we were kids. Let alone our childhood, we never heard it in our midlife also.”
Jaya’s daughter Shweta Bachchan said it’s now…
Shweta, the daughter of Jaya Bachchan, provided an alternate viewpoint. She asserted that while anxiety has always been present, it is now more apparent due to heightened awareness. “Anxiety was always there. It’s now more identifiable. It’s more spoken about, Shweta said, highlighting that even Jaya has openly discussed her own experiences with anxiety, noting, ‘It’s just more vocal’,” she said.
Here’s how netizens reacted
Internet users were quick to take notice Jaya Bachchan’s comments about anxiety and criticised her. Many believed she was playing down the issue, and some questioned her expertise. One user wrote, “Don’t talk..don’t laugh..don’t cut me off…don’t this ..don’t that….baap re..”
Another user wrote, “Sb chirchiri aurten anxiety k baray main baat kr rae hain. Mjhe anxiety hogai hai ye reel dekh ke.”
