The nephew of composer Anu Malik and son of music director Daboo Malik, Amaal Mallik, has opened about the underlying conflicts in his musically famous family. The two brothers, Daboo and Anu, have frequently been at odds despite sharing a common heritage as the sons of the late musician Sardar Malik. Amaal recently shared heartbreaking details about the brothers’ tense working relationship and how it influenced his own creative path in an interview with Siddharth Kannan.
Daboo and Anu Malik’s love-hate bond
Even though Daboo and Anu Malik may appear to be close to one another to the general public, Amaal explained that their brotherly bond was hampered by intense professional competition. He said that although they had a strong emotional link, their professional relationship was tainted by jealously and rivalry.

In order to replace his own brother, Anu allegedly approached film producers and offered to compose music for them for little or no cost, purportedly interfering with Daboo’s career out of an obsession with approval.
Amaal blames THESE people for sabotaging Daboo Malik
Amaal’s disclosures extended beyond his uncle. He asserted that other musicians, particularly the duo Sajid-Wajid, were also responsible for thwarting Daboo Malik’s advancement. He conveyed his intense anger at the failure of his father’s own circle.
Amaal says that Daboo’s generosity left him open to manipulation by those he had previously trusted, and that this vulnerability made him helpless.

Amaal recounted a particularly distressing occurrence involving filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt. Amaal asserted that just as Daboo was ready to sign on to compose the music for the movie Murder, Anu Malik intervened and gained control of the project using deceitful tactics.
Amaal explained that this was only one example of how his father missed out on huge opportunities. According to Amaal, Daboo suffered from depression from the age of 32 to 45 as a result of these repeated blows. Amaal, who was a child during this time, stated that these occurrences had a lasting impact on him. Seeing his father’s emotional collapse motivated his desire to restore the family’s dignity through music.
