Zareen Khan REACTS to Khushi Mukherjee's criticism of her Hate Story role; 'Main raaste pe...'

Bollywood actress Zareen Khan spoke her heart out during an interview with Pinkvilla Hindi Rush about the public perception of female actors who perform bold scenes. She shared her experience of being misjudged and stereotyped because of the roles that she played on the big screen. She did not specifically mention an incident, but Zareen pointed out how certain acting choices involving intimate or bold content continue to raise eyebrows if done by women. She said, “At the end of the day, acting toh acting hoti hai… ek art hai. Agar ladka kare toh body aur maza dekha jaata hai. Ladki kare toh kharaab samajh lete hain.”

Zareen even spoke about a certain pattern that has been directed at women in the industry. She said that people feel that if a woman has done TV, then they assume that she might be the same in her real life. She also spoke about the assumptions that impact how female actors get approached. According to her, people often fail to separate a character from the person, which leads to inappropriate comments. Zareen added, saying, “That’s why they don’t even feel like approaching a female actress who might have done a bold scene with a different perspective. Ya toh stupid questions ya stupid requests lekar aa jaate hain.”

Zareen further spoke about the criticism she has faced from other women and said that women are women’s biggest enemy. She said that her appearance in the film Hate Story continues to affect her life. She said, Arre yeh bhool gayi ki isne toh Hate Story kiya hai. Hate Story toh movie thi. Main raste pe nangi nahi chal rahi. There’s a huge difference between real life and reel life”. She even said that understanding the line between reel and real life is important. Zareen said that a few influencers get criticized for their appearance in front of paps for their bold outfits. For the uninformed, Khushi Mukherji took a dig at Zareen for her role in the film.

In 2010, Zareen was launched by Salman Khan in Veer. She was even part of films like Ready, Aksar 2, Hate Story 3 and Housefull 2. Zareen even worked in regional cinema and was seen in Daaka and Jatt James Bond.
