Filmmaker Chandra Barot who directed Amitabh Bachchan’s superhit film Don is no more. His wife confirmed the reports of his demise.

Veteran filmmaker Chandra Barot is no more. He breathed his last at the age of 86. The news of his demise was confirmed by his wife Deepa Barot. To Times of India, she revealed that the filmmaker suffering from pulmonary fibrosis. She said, “He had been battling pulmonary fibrosis for the past seven years.” Chandra Barot is best known for directing Amitabh Bahchan‘s Don. Farhan Akhtar who made Don 2 with Shah Rukh Khan and is making Don 3 with Ranveer Singh took to social media to mourn the loss.

Farhan Akhtar in his post wrote, “Saddened to learn that the director of the OG Don is no more. RIP Chandra Barot-ji. Deepest condolences to the family.” Apart from Farhan Akhtar, actor Kunal Kohli also penned a heartfelt tribute for Chandra Barot. He had assisted Chandra Barot on one of the films. Director Sanjay Gupta also took to his X (formerly known as Twitter) and bid his farewell to Chandra Barot. He thanked the late filmmaker for Don calling it the most entertaining film.

Apart from Don, Chandra Barot directed movies like Aashrita, Pyar Bhara Dil, Hong Kong Wali Script, and Neil Ko Pakadna….Impossible. He had started his career as an assistant director and worked on iconic projects like Purab Aur Pachhim, Yaadgaa, Roti Kapada Aur Makaan and more.

Back in 2006, in an interview with Rediff.com, Chandra Barot had spoken about directing less movies. He was quoted saying, “How many films did K Asif made? Hardly any, but he will always be known for Mughal-E-Azam. Ramesh Sippy made many films, but will always be remembered as the maker of Sholay. Mehboob made many too, but will always be remembered for Mother India. In the same way, I made one film — Don — and will always be remembered for it.”
