This Week in Health & Performance: What the Latest Research Says

🫀 AI-Powered Heart Diagnostics Are Coming: SandboxAQ just announced a collaboration with Mayo Clinic to explore advanced, AI-driven magnetocardiography (MCG) for cardiac diagnostics. If successful, this tech could allow detailed heart “imaging” without invasive CT scans or angiography—a serious upgrade for early detection and safer screening (read more here).

🧠 Exercise Is a Hormone Delivery System to the Brain: New research shows exercise floods the brain with beneficial hormones that influence pain relief, stress resilience, metabolism, inflammation, and mental health. Vigorous exercise has been shown to deliver up to 4x more of these brain-targeted signals, hinting at future exercise-mimicking therapies (study here).

🥩 Red Meat & Ulcerative Colitis—Read the Fine Print: Headlines claim red meat “causes” ulcerative colitis, but the data come from observational studies with zero quality control over meat sourcing or processing. This serves as a reminder that correlation does not equal causation and that study design should always be examined before buying the hype (study here).

⚡ Antioxidants & Exercise—Why Age Matters: Oxidative stress helps drive training adaptations, which is why antioxidants can blunt gains in younger adults. But for exercisers over about 55 years, new data suggests antioxidants may actually support adaptations, likely because aging increases baseline oxidative burden (read the study).

Key Takeaway: Context is everything. From AI heart scans to exercise hormones, meat studies, and antioxidant timing, the real benefits come from understanding who a strategy is for, when to use it, and how it fits your physiology.

Product Of The Week

::: Lose Weight With Lumen (Without Losing Strength) + Save 15% Off :::

LumenI’ve seen endless diets and weight-loss drugs promise fast results, but many of them come with a hidden cost: lost strength, lost muscle, and a slower metabolism over time.

That’s how people end up hitting plateaus, feeling weaker, and eventually rebounding. That’s not real health. That’s a metabolic compromise.

This is exactly why I like the metabolic health coach Lumen. I use Lumen to train my body to burn more fat while preserving muscle and restoring true metabolic flexibility.

With a single breath, Lumen measures how your body is fueling itself and builds a personalized nutrition plan that prioritizes protein, supports lean mass, and teaches your metabolism when to burn fat versus carbs.

It also coaches you on smart fasting strategies and proper pre-workout fueling, so you’re not sacrificing muscle or performance in the name of weight loss.

The result is better body composition and long-term metabolic health—two of the biggest drivers of longevity, functional aging, and sustained performance.

Lumen’s New Year sale is live, and my community gets an extra 15% off with code BGFitness at checkout here.
