This Week In Golf Fashion: Truist Championship

JT’s tailor proves not all superhero’s wear a cape, Higgo is no Mad Hatter, but he’s got mad hat game, the mystery surrounding Viktor’s shoe-switcheroo and more, as Michael warms up for (and predicts his winner for) next week’s PGA Championship by recapping the fashion scene from the Truist Championship.

Justin Thomas (Greyson Clothiers & FootJoy)

I have been critical of the juxtaposition between JT’s new FJ shoes and Greyson apparel. Admittedly, I am a card-carrying member of the Premiere Series fan club. However, I finally put the HyperFlex in play and I now see what all the hype is about. These not only perform but are insanely comfortable. From a style-standpoint they look much better with shorts, but Justin Thomas shortened his trousers to make things work.

Min Woo Lee (Lululemon & FootJoy)

I love the lavender/white diamond print pattern on Min Woo Lee’s Lululemon Sport Polo with its snap buttons. The “Updated, Classic Fit” is spot on. This version is less boxy without being too slim for my aging bod.

Max Homa (Lululemon & Puma Golf)

Keeping with Lululemon, here is a polo I don’t recognize. It appears to be a classic fit cotton blend polo. I am digging it.

Garrick Higgo

Let’s go back a few weeks when Garrick Higgo won the Corales Puntacana Championship while wearing a Boston Red Sox lid (somewhere Keegan Bradley was smiling along with me). At the time Garrick didn’t have a hat or apparel deal. He just wore what he wanted. Sadly, Higgo isn’t a Boston fan per se (he’s also been spotted wearing a New Orleans Saints and Detroit Tigers cap). Looks like after that victory in the Dominican Republic, my guy might’ve gotten himself a hat deal since he’s been sporting this sick Palm Tree Crew ball cap ever since. Oh, and those Cactus Jack J’s ain’t too shabby either.

Rory McIlroy (Nike Golf)

A long sleeve polo is classy, and Rory looks sharp in the Dri-FIT Victory Long-Sleeve. Plus, it provides additional sun protection and a hint of warmth on those cooler days. I am curious to try out the Nike Victory Tour 4 Golf shoes this summer. I am holding out for the PGA Pack set to be released on May 15.

Rickie Fowler (Puma Golf)

It is always good when Rickie is in the mix. I am a big fan of this Boulder Golf 1/4 Zip he wore on Saturday. The texture is rich, but the price tag is not.

Akshay Bhatia (TravisMathew)

When it was first announced that Akshay moved to TravisMathew I wasn’t sure how I felt about move. I was wrong. He looks dynamite in TM. The Thyme Open to Close Tech Chino fit Akshay to a tee.

Keith Mitchell (Sid Mashburn & FootJoy)

I was really pulling for Keith Mitchell this weekend. He might not have won the Truist Championship, but he won me over with his Sid Mashburn Side-Tab trousers sans belt.

Erik van Rooyen (Greyson Clothiers & Ecco)

EVR doing EVR sartorial things but this time stepping out in one of the season’s most hyped shoe, the Ecco Golf Biom H5. You need to see these in person. They are cool. Really cool.

Jordan Spieth (Under Armour)

Two things: First, Jordan Spieth looks bad ass in this technical vest over the subtle camo polo. Second, he is my pick to win the PGA Championship and complete the career grand slam. I like story lines, what can I say?

Viktor Hovland (J.Lindeberg & Puma? Nike??)

I’ve been silent long enough. What the hell is going on with Viktors shoe switcheroo? A few months ago, Puma insisted that Hovland was still under contract despite him switching to the Nike Roshe Tour Golf shoes he wore back in the day. Puma stated in a release that they were working with him to find a shoe that fit his needs. That was then. This is now. He is no longer listed on their Tour Staff page.

Michael Kim (Dunning & FootJoy BOA)

I can be quirky. A few of my PGA Tour related idiosyncrasies are tracking tattoos on Tour and keeping up with which players wear the inimitable Boa Fit System. Add Michael Kim to the list of guys who dial in their shoes.
