Theo Von became the center of online chatter after ESPN’s Jess Sims swiftly shut him down live on College GameDay. The brief exchange, marked by Sims’s deadpan delivery, quickly went viral as viewers replayed the moment across social media.
The College GameDay team, Rece Davis, Desmond Howard, Nick Saban, Pat McAfee, and Kirk Herbstreit, was joined by comedian and podcaster Theo Von as the week’s celebrity guest picker. What began as lighthearted guest banter turned into one of the show’s most talked-about clips.

Did Jess Sims’ Viral Response Turn Theo Von into College GameDay’s Punchline?
College GameDay rolled into Tuscaloosa on Saturday morning for a high-stakes SEC clash between No. 10 Alabama and No. 16 Vanderbilt. Despite a lighter Week 6 slate featuring just five SEC matchups, the weekend carried plenty of intrigue.
Alongside Alabama’s home showdown, fans were tuned in to see Texas face Florida, Mississippi State visit Texas A&M, and Kentucky take on a fired-up Georgia squad.
Theo-Sims’ segment was expected to be light and entertaining, but it quickly became one of the morning’s most talked-about moments.
During an on-air exchange, Von tried to engage reporter Jess Sims by asking, “Do I get to see you again?” Sims, without hesitation, replied, “No, I hope not.”

Her deadpan delivery and timing left the cast and audience laughing, while social media erupted within minutes. The clip spread rapidly, with fans posting reactions that ranged from amused to critical.
The brief but awkward exchange instantly turned Von into a trending topic and made Sims a fan favorite for her quick response.
Some viewers didn’t hold back, with one writing, “I don’t get Theo or McAfee for that matter,”
Another added, “They and America both dodged a bullet. Two very different clowns.”
“We passed on Ms Terry again for this?,” another quipped.

Von’s time on GameDay continued to spark conversation for more reasons than one. Appearing live from Tuscaloosa, he picked the road team, Vanderbilt, to beat Alabama for the second straight year, a move that went against the grain just moments after Nick Saban himself predicted a Crimson Tide win.
“They are my ride home,” Von quipped. “I’m not joking.”

He also made a playful jab at Alabama’s new coach, Kalen DeBoer, saying this season’s team finally had “his own players,” referencing Saban’s departure. The remark drew laughs from both the GameDay crew and the crowd on site.
Von’s connection to Vanderbilt runs deeper than his guest appearance. The Nashville resident lives in the former home of ex-Vanderbilt coach Derek Mason and has been spotted supporting the Commodores all season.
Earlier this year, he even made a bet with quarterback Diego Pavia, who promised Von a date with his mother if Vanderbilt beat South Carolina, a game the Commodores went on to win.
