Peak, arguably the most viral indie game of 2025, is now available for players, and it costs less than $8, in what I consider a worthwhile investment, especially if you have friends to play it with. This year has been great for viral party games. Aside from Peak, one of the best examples of this is the highly acclaimed horror title REPO. In it, you have to cooperatively explore creepy dungeons alongside allies and loot the locations to reach the specific quotas. Afterwards, your goal is to escape alive and return to the shop, where you can buy upgrades.
However, these maps are filled with monsters that will try to disrupt your plans, either destroying the loot you acquire or hunting you down, each with their specific abilities. At its core, REPO resembles extraction games like Lethal Company. Nevertheless, the overall design of the creatures in REPO and even the playable character avatars is a lot more lighthearted, and you have a bigger fighting chance against them. REPO is one of the best viral games to play with friends, but the recent viral sensation Peak is offering players brand-new gameplay options that don’t involve escaping monsters.
What Is Peak & Why Is Everyone Obsessed?
The Climbing Game Can Provide Hilarious Moments With Friends
Peak is a cooperative climbing game in which your goal is to continuously climb up a mysterious mountain, using resources, to escape a deadly fog that starts rising behind you. There are several stages to the procedurally generated map of the game, which refreshes every day. The core of the game revolves around managing your stamina to climb. The big thing about this indie game of 2025 is that players can help each other continue climbing, either with the innate mechanic of pulling up a colleague while they climb, or using special items, like ropes.
Peak sold two million copies in nine days.
Peak has gone viral, with an introductory video created by SMii7y on YouTube, which reached nearly two million views in one day (at the time of writing), and this is but one example. A viral video posted by ray.narvaezjr on TikTok shows a hilarious moment in which one of their allies falls. The game, like REPO in many ways, is extremely funny. With a proximity-based chat system and amusing player avatars, it’s hilarious to watch your friends miscalculate the stamina they have while climbing and tumble to their demise, or eat something that puts them to sleep mid-climbing, for example.
Why You Should Play Peak
The Climbing Game Is A Fun Way To Bond With Friends
Aside from watching clips on social media, Peak is very much worth playing. It’s a fun and casual game that allows you to spend a lot of time chatting with your friends and sharing fun experiences together, be they funny in the face of doom or exhilarating when you complete a phase on your climb. This game is well polished, and so far, I haven’t found bugs, much less those that disrupt gameplay progression. The physics mechanics behind it are honest, and you never really feel like it’s giving you a hard time just for the sake of difficulty.

If you’re looking for a co-op Soulslike game while you wait for Nightreign and Duskbloods to come out, these 10 are great options.
The cooperative aspect of Peak is also a lot more relevant here than in several coop games I’ve played recently. The ability to share resources can help your entire team progress smoothly instead of making only one person responsible for the food that your characters will need to eat to alleviate a portion of the stamina bar overrun by hunger, for example. Furthermore, as simple as it is, the mechanic that allows you to pull an ally to the ledge that you are standing on as they try to make their way up gives it a real sense of camaraderie.
Another great reason to play Peak, and perhaps one of the reasons it went so viral, is that it is a fairly cheap title, especially when compared to larger Triple-A releases. According to Peak’s page on Steam, the game is sold for $7.99, which can be considered an accessible price. Additionally, the game doesn’t have insane system requirements, as an Intel Core i5, 8GB of RAM, and a GTX 1060 or equivalent is enough to run it. This makes it available to many more players, easily turning it into one of the best online coop games to play right now.
One of my favorite elements in Peak is that, even when your character dies, you can continue to chat with your friends in the form of a ghost, rather than be stuck in a lobby alone waiting for another friend’s character to die so you have someone to talk to.
Even if its cooperative aspects are some of its best parts, it’s possible to play Peak solo and enjoy the climb alone if you so desire. The game will not punish you for it, as long as you learn to manage the resources you carry, such as bandages to heal you when you fall and food to keep your hunger from taking over your stamina.
Expect Updates For Peak
The Climbing Game Could Potentially Get New Content
While the game’s daily renewal of the map is a great way of keeping it fresh and forces you to uncover new routes to climb rather than go down a pre-established path, you can expect updates to Peak in the future. According to the patch notes by studio Landcrab, which were shared on Steam, the team is now looking into possible updates for the climbing game, though it has not yet shared what form these updates can take. Landcrab has revealed that it has been taking notes of the suggestions made by players, but that not all will be done.

Multiplayer games are pretty common nowadays, but once upon a time, the only way to play with friends was on the couch at home.
Another noteworthy detail is that Landcrab is still prioritizing bug fixes and stability. The team warns players that they shouldn’t expect a huge content update just yet because of these priorities, but that it is within their plans. While there is some uncertainty revolving around when new content will arrive, what type of content it will be, and how many content updates may be planned for the game, it does seem like Landcrab has acknowledged its players and will work to keep the game fresh.
Hopefully, these possible updates include more possible biomes to include in the map seed that refreshes daily, as well as new types of items with various effects. Regardless of the potential updates, after actually playing Peak with my friends and losing track of time, I finally understood why it went viral and everyone is obsessed with it.
