Bollywood supestar Aamir Khan and Reena Dutta tied knot in 1986 after sharing romantic relationship with each other. The couple parted ways through divorce in 2002. He then married Kiran Rao but they eventually parted ways. In an interview, Aamir Khan reveals about his condition after separation.
Aamir Khan and Reena Dutta fall in love with each other as neighbours. The duo spends hours in front of their windows just to have a glimpse of each other. Aamir first expressed his love to Reena and chased her till she said yes to him. The actor was so in love with Reena that he wrote her letters with his blood to impress her. The two secretly tied the knot reportedly before the release of his debut film Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. The couple decided to part ways just a year after their first big production, Lagaan. They share a son, Junaid Khan, and a daughter, Ira Khan
Aamir Khan tried to kill himself with alcohol
The divorce was not easy to take for Aamir Khan; it drove him into alcohol. After the separation, the actor cut ties with the outside world for over a year. In the promo shared by Lallantop, Aamir opened up about his condition after Reena and he parted ways. “When Reena and I separated, that evening I finished an entire bottle of alcohol, and for the next 1.5 years I drank every day. I never slept. Mai behosh hojata tha daaru peeke (I would lose consciousness due to heavy drinking.) I was trying to kill myself,” said Aamir.
Aamir further revealed that he was not even working back then and was not interested in meeting anybody. “The same year, Lagaan was released, and a newspaper article called me ‘Man of the year, Aamir Khan’. I found it very ironic,” he added.
Aamir also talked about the struggles Reena and he faced at the time of divorce. He revealed that their split was traumatic for them and their families. He further said that they together tried to deal with the situation. “Reena and I did not lose love or respect for each other post our split,” said Aamir.
After divorce, Aamir got married to Kiran Rao in 2005 and welcomed his son, Azad. However, the couple parted ways in 2021 after 16 years of divorce. Currently, Aamir is in a relationship with his friend of 20 years, Gaui Spratt.
